ATI video card trade up deal

So I'm hunting down a driver for an ES1000 for a server that keeps crashing. The above link was my first hit. So I looked at it since my old Ti4200 is in need of replacement if or when I go to Vista.

It would appear to me that the Radeon X1650 Pro is $199 (same as the Egg) and then you send in your old card and get a $50 credit.

I have some old video cards laying around that I can't get $50 out of even to the stupidest sucker. I would almost feel better sending that old Trident 4mb PCI to ATI and getting $50 than throwing it in the trash and getting nothing.

Not sure how hot this is, it's my first OP, so if the heat is not there, go easy on me.

I'm not an ATI guy, I don't know how good or bad this card is. I've always used nVidia products. Is this a good card for a buck fifty?

That is not a very good gaming card. You can get an Nvidia 7600GT for around $119 that will easily beat that card.

Now if you're talking the AGP version, it's a better deal, but a 7600GT AGP would still be far faster and a better deal IMO.

I wasn't sure if you were looking at the PCI-E or the AGP version.

Yeah, I noticed after I got all excited about it that it might not be as hot as originally thought. If I used it for my main box, right now it would be AGP.

I really want an 8800 when I do rebuild the main rig in my sig. They just need to drop in price by a few hundred.

The question then becomes, do I rebuild the rig or try to find an Aeron for a good deal so I can break it and have it under warranty for 12 years.

heck, I got a 7900 GS for $130, and it OC's like mad. It's also better than the 7600GT, and I too am waiting for the 8800 or R600 series to come out at a sub $200 price point. It'd be nice to have a card that'll run Oblivion maxxed out in 1920X1050 without effort, rather than stuttering or crawling....

It's kind of awesome they created a game that will scale with hardware for at least 2 years so it doesn't look dated in 6 months or less.
