This is just a poll. I just want to see what the forums' bias is. I do not wish to start a flame war considering this poll has probably already been done before.

Uh, in what area? Quality, customer service, benchmarks, ect?

EDIT: Who has better cards? That's quite a vague question. They both make exceptional products.

This is going to turn ugly

ALthough i'm very happy with my 6800 OC I still would of preferred to have a x800 pro or so. Don't get me wrong, this card performs very very well but I think I like the feel of ATI cards. Having owned a 9500np and a 9700 pro and now this BFG, I must say even though the other cards weren't as fast as my current card, the 2d was much much faster with ATI which helped when browsing photos and such on my hard drive.

Hopefully people just don't say anything negative about somebody elses opinion.

this is pretty vague so I will assume this refers to the beginning of time; and considering the sucesses and failures both companies have had over the past six years, its hard to pick a winner. to paraphrase it i would say nvidia was dominating ati until about 3(?) years ago when the old brute-force-not-efficiency-plan finally bit it in the ass, but it has since recovered from that and the cards actually scale well. also, maybe if i knew the answer to this: "ati cards image clarity look so much better that it is worth any less FPS / extra price", I have never owned an ATI card to find out

tough choice :x

yeah, i just like the "feel" of having an ati card...kinda weird
they have better IQ imo, not all of these beta driver problems

they're pretty equal overall... since may/june, if there's any advantage it's been the area of availability, where ati has plain sucked..

as for the poll, it's asinine. i didn't cast a vote.

I put ATI. I just bought a Nvidia card and I'm not too happy with it at the moment.

I call shens on that remark about the 2D being "much much faster with ATI." While you might have experienced a quality difference (e.g. contrast, colors, etc.), there is no way in hell that ATIs 2D is causing your photos to display faster. The only thing I could see is the video playback issue which just recently cropped up with NV cards. Sounds like you have other problems with your system if a simple gfx card change is affecting something that is almost entirely CPU/RAM/HD bound.

How can you call shens on that? This is what i've experienced and don't flame me for it.

In all fairness, I'm quite the opposite.

I prefer the feel of the Nvidia cards.

I believe they accelerate the Windows GUI better by far. I dont think ATI cards do at all, as a matter of fact.

At least my 9800 Pro was quite a bit slower in Windows XP than even my old Geforce2s.

I remember a press release from 2001 from Nvidia that I read stating this-
http://nvidia.com/object/IO_20011024_9123.html
http://nvidia.com/object/IO_20011012_6225.html

Of course, this is more noticable with a slower processor.. but I notice (on my el-crap 1700+) better system performance with my Nvidia cards over the ATIs.

Not trying to poop on the party, just add to it.

Detonator XP includes specific 2D and 3D technology enhancements designed to accelerate special features contained in Windows XP, delivering top performance and a sleek new way to navigate the Windows XP desktop.

Full acceleration of the new Windows XP graphical interface. ClearType? support adds improved quality and readability of text, helping to reduce eye-fatigue sometimes experienced by notebook and desktop users.

Doesnt mean a whole lot to some.. but I want every dollars worth (and I always felt Nvidia better delivered in this department, esp long term driver support).

They just seem to work a little harder for their customer. SM3.0 first, first hardware TnL, first 32bit color (at least they pushed it alot), first SLI, first RETURN of SLI, best drivers in the industry (at very least OGL/Linux/64bit drivers hands down, this at least is undebatable). And if you want to get technical about it, even the 5800 Ultra's shaders were more advanced than the R300 (DX9+ anyone )

Ever since 3dfx died, I keep coming back to Nvidia even after trying ATI cards time and time again (and usually end up regretting turning my back, but try and try again in the name of fairness and openmindedness).

And most importantly, I've had the best consistent real world experience with them over any other brand. Though 3dfx seemed to have pretty decent driver support too.

Some here are too young, but you gotta face it.. Nvidia came out of NOWHERE, and now challenges the allmighty ATI.

I think alot assume that ATI is the underdog cuz most of their products since before the 8500 pretty much sucked.. but thats just not true.

ATI and NV are about equal in market share ect right now (with slight ATI lead I believe), but Nvidia is really the underdog.. and quite the "overnight success".

ATIs been established since the 80s.. I had their cards for years and years before hardware accelerated 3D was ever a glimmer.

Surprised it's still civil.

I prefer Nvidia, but only just, the way I see it they're more consistent. My biggest gripe is always drivers and I've never done much chopping and changing with Nvidia cards. My Radeon was another story, and I still hate that card today. 2D quality is iffy now, my Hercules GF2MX had pretty good 2D, my Ati Radeon had awful quality (wavy lines at most res/refresh) and my new 6600GT is passable, but blurs at higher res/refresh rates.

It doesn't really matter much to me anymore which one I get. As long as it a) works, and b) doesn't stop working. Unfortunately my Radeon (8500) showed a nasty tendency to violate b, so for me ATI ranks lower as stability and compatibility matter more than performance now.

Personally I only have ATI simply because it works. My 9700 pro I got when it first came out, and it was still kickin until I got this x850XT PE. I'm quite happy with both. I'm no fanboy though, and I even recommended an nvidia card to a friend who was on a budget.

The reason I haven't gotten nvidia myself is a few reasons. First, they cheated on benchmarks with the FX line. Something like that just tells me they aren't trustworthy, and I think that's a good reason to avoid them. And then it's forums like these. You will find threads for both sides with issues, but in my time I've seen many more for nvidia than ati. Personally I'll choose the lesser of two evils. No one is perfect, but one is better. Right now it's ATI in my opinion.

Now, I think nvidia is actually making better cards this generation. I think everyone can agree the FX line was crap. For performance, it's a tie. Image quality? Do you think you can notice with the naked eye? I've seen some comparisons where they show ATI being better, but personally I can't notice.

The king is dead...long live the king........VOODOO 5! I am not brand loyal, I will use whatever technology offers the best bang for my buck. I am currently using an ATI X800 Pro in my desktop which I am very happy with. My Toshiba laptop has Nvidia graphics. Both brands are working wonderfully......

If both ATI and Nvidia weren't here to compete, we wouldn't have the cards we have today. I like both. Usually every year or so I like one or the other, but IMO, it's a tie this year.

All you need to know is the 26 alphabits for you to read/say ATI,, but you will need alot more work before reading/saying Nvidia.

I didn't vote cause I think this poll is just stupid, and the question is just too vague.
