Check out the mighty Hercules Thriller, only 4 fps below a Voodoo1 at Quake 2, and it has both 2d/3d! The Verite is clearly the most exciting GPU available!

No, matrox will prevail with the millenium II!

I like ati, but i'm disapointed with their x800 series as far as price and availibity. they should of made the x800 pro a $300 dollar card, Made a better mid range card thats equal to the Gt and had way more availibity for the XT. I voted Nvidia.

I voted ati because

1) I could use my original drivers (ati) and still run everything w/o problems

2) nvidia's fx cards (DX9, IQ, beaten by slower-clocked ati cards)

3) my cousin's gf4 wouldnt play Allied Assault no matter what drivers you install

4) 6800 video processor issue

Yeah, the FX line of cards did SUCK, no one can argue with that but Nvidia has turned things around with this 6 series. ATI on the other hand seems like their x850 line is not going to improve availibilty, the x850 is selling for 650? The XL is going for 500? Hope fully ATI will turn things around like nvidia I would like to buy one of their graphics cards after im ready to upgrade.

Yes it will. You gotta give them some time.
It shouldnt take months and months like it has for the current line.. but I think the availability of the x850 is already showing signs of being quite a bit more on hand than the x800s.

it will be nice to have an influx of pcie only cards. we've got pcie nforce4s all over the place taking rave reviews, intels been pcie for quite some time.. about time they start giving us some pcie.

NV would be wise to do the same, its not like Dell doesnt buy 10trillian more of these cards than all of us here.

I voted Nvidia, but I'm not the most knowledgeable buyer. I have yet to delve into ATi, but next upgrade I might, still a little pissy about the whole broken PVP thing on my 6800....

Basically, I like Nvidia's drivers, have never had problems with them, and have heard horror stories of people having to keep different catalyst versions on hand to play different games. This may be utter garbage, it's just what I've heard from friends. If ATi seems to have the better buy at my next upgrade, I'll go with them, it's just that ATi didn't have a competitive $300 card when I upgraded last time (X800 pros were still close to $400 at the time).

the person video player chip didnt work for what? 10 months? after the release of the 6800series. NV was just too lazy to put it in the drivers to enable it.

This is going to turn ugly

ALthough i'm very happy with my 6800 OC I still would of preferred to have a x800 pro or so. Don't get me wrong, this card performs very very well but I think I like the feel of ATI cards. Having owned a 9500np and a 9700 pro and now this BFG, I must say even though the other cards weren't as fast as my current card, the 2d was much much faster with ATI which helped when browsing photos and such on my hard drive.

I call shens on that remark about the 2D being "much much faster with ATI." While you might have experienced a quality difference (e.g. contrast, colors, etc.), there is no way in hell that ATIs 2D is causing your photos to display faster. The only thing I could see is the video playback issue which just recently cropped up with NV cards. Sounds like you have other problems with your system if a simple gfx card change is affecting something that is almost entirely CPU/RAM/HD bound.

How can you call shens on that? This is what i've experienced and don't flame me for it.

I'm not flaming you. I'm just pointing out the fact that any recent card from pretty much any manufacturer should have nearly identical performance doing what you discussed. In the past, there was differences in 2D 'speed', but those days are long gone. It must have been some other factor in your system - e.g. an old driver causing trouble, a windows update messing something up (there was a well documented update a few years back that did cause some significant hard drive slowdown), etc.
