Yeah, but you got to enjoy a year's worth of gaming with good visual quality PC gaming is pretty cheap entertainment when you compare it to the cost of dollar eating "arcade games" these days or to the $50-$60 console based games plus the cost of the console itself.

Should I get this or a 7900gt? I would like to use it on my dell 2000fpw at 1680x1050 at max settings with 4xaa and 8xaf on. I have a friend that says that if I want movie quality graphics I should go for ATI, does that sound right?

they don't need to be free. we have FS/FT. Just wait a few months after release. I got COD2, FEAR, and splinter cell for 50 bones. Try doing that on a xbox 360!

not to thread crap, but how does this compare to a 7900gt? i'm really excited about mine, but monarch screwed me over on this and i won't get it until probably next week. Should i cancel and get this instead?

mordantmonkey: It depends on what you think you will take advantage more. The 7900GT has more pixel pipelines (24), but it only has 256MB while the x1800XT has 512MB. Personally, I'd go for the 7900GT. From what I can remember from around various review sites, the two, for the most part, run equal or pretty close to each other.

Oh, and this is a pretty good deal indeed. Right in competition with the 7900GT .

Please explain. Anyone gots any benchmarks on the 256MB x1800XT? What about noise and heat? My new rig is very very quiet and I want to keep it that way except when I play games, then I don't mind the noise as much..

That's the thing, there are no benches for the 1800XT 256MB version.

I agree with you completely. I have recently gotten a x1900xt and have two 7800gts. Picture quality in ati card is definately lot better than nvidia. I know its an apple and orange comparison but I believe this is the general case.

Do some search for far cry nvidia driver issue, you will see what I am talking about.

PC games tend to cost about the same. I'm a console and pc gamer and they both have their pluses but game prices is not something to compare.

edit: oh and yeah, ATi seems to have better picture quality.
