ATI X600 vs all-in-wonder 2006

I've been out of the loop regarding video cards since I'm not really a gamer, but I need to upgrade my current <beyond ancient> nVidia Quadro 2 Pro

I realized that AIW has a TV tuner that X600 doesn't have. But taking that _out_ of the consideration, which one is a better video card?

I hate how ATI doesn't tell you what chip is actually in the AIWs. but anyway... why are you considering an x600? what's your budget for a new vid card?

i think the AIW 2006 AGG is the 9600 and pcie is x1300

Yeah, looking at the website, the PCIe (which is hte one I'm considering) is X1300.
So by pure numbers does that mean the AIW is better than X600 since it's X1300?

Well, the X600 is because my friend has it and he's willing to sell it "cheap" to me.

As for performance I don't really know, but since you claim "I'm not really a gamer" performance may not mean much anyway.

Those names/numbers dont tell you much except that one is a newer generation, of course the newer gerneration is going to have more features but not necessarily more performance.

The X1300 is the newest generation but the lowest performing (of that generation) while the X600 is an older generation and a step above the lowest (of that generation).

Even the above does not cover everything as there is often a suffix after some models that indicate relative performance of that paticular card to other cards that use the same chip and and naming scheme (X600SE, X600PRO, X600XT).

If you really need/want to know about their performance you might have to check out some reviews, that may not be as easy as it sounds since most review sites don't test these low end cards on a regular basis.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=94&card2=349 implies even the vanilla X1300 is going to be about 10% faster than a 9600Pro.

The X600 is exactly identical to a 9600 of the same suffix. They're the same GPU, with a bridge chip. So in every instance, the X1300 non-pro will be zippier than a X600. Unless the X600 is an XT, and the X1300 on the AIW is downclocked (very possible). In which case they'll have identical performance.

So, as another poster said, suffixes are the thing that matters. But at this performance level, I'm sure you won't be able to tell the difference between the cards no matter which one you get in modern games. The X1300 based card will at least let you see a slideshow of 'My Visit to Cyrodil with HDR', when the X600/9600 will not.
