ATI X800pro for $330 ?!?!?!?

U may see my topic below about the 6800nu. My budget was really limiting me. I know the GeForce 6800GT is faster than the X800pro by quite a bit, but since then i found it for $70 less, and it seems like a pretty good deal.

One major concern i have is that Pixel Shader 2 and DX9.0b is limiting (compared to PS3 and 9.0c). I will need this to last a couple of years (2-3). So, does the lack of PS3 and 9.0c make this a bad investment? I know it's pretty fast now and will be fast later, but i've heard that games will really start taking advantage of PS3 and 9.0c next year and that the X800 is gunna feel old then. Opinions or benchmarks welcomed.

Also, can u unlock the extra pipes on the ATI version of the card?

I don't think even the mightly 6800U would last 3 years. An X800 Pro for 330 isn't a bad deal though, I'd jump on it if thats all you can afford in your budget.

Edit - Err, just read your sig, says you have a 6800nu. Jumping from a 6800nu to an X800 Pro isn't a big enough jump to justify a 330 dollar cost. Unless you can return the nu for a refund?

The 6800GT is not faster then the x800pro by quite a bit, they are neck and neck if both are using the latest drivers in anything but doom 3.

ok, so the X800pro is good for the future (ok, maybe not 3 yrs, but 2?)

and for Bateluer, that's what i'm thinking about getting, i havent bought it yet. This should perform far above the 6800nu, and a bit under the GT for $70 less...

$330 is not a bad deal, but you might just want to wait for a bit, I picked up a BFG 6800 GT OC for $330 from gamestop.com (just a few weeks ago) so deals are still popping up all over. You have a choice, $330 now for a great card or the chance (fairly good chance with black Friday coming up) of getting a slightly better card for the same price.

For the record, I am a ATI fanboy, always have been, probably always will be. With the benchmarks putting these two side by side (Far Cry seems to favor ATI, Doom3 seems to favor nVidia) and prices where the same I was leaning towards the x800 pro. But when I saw this price and noted the 16 pipelines as well as the support for PS 3, I jumped on the 6800 GT. If I can help it, my next card will be back in the ATI camp, but we shall see...

Well a cursory review of Xbitlabs reviews the cards in question are neck and neck most of the time, with the X800Pro pulling ahead in the Unreal engined games, and CS:S, and the 6800GT pulling ahead in OpenGL.

But irregardless of the facts, I will continue to personally attack anyone who even hints that they like ATi filth.

Everything ATi has made in the past 3 years has been garbage, and everyone who owns that Canuck produced trash is human garbage.

I'm going to take a wild stab and guess you are from the usa, if you are, its half-wit inbred morons like you that foster the generalization that americans are bigots and have an unjustified superiority complex. If you're not, well, you're just a retard in that case. :roll: Oh and not to forget ATI made one of the best and most profound leaps in video cards when they introduced the 9800pro, it completely blew away anything nvidia had, and they stayed on top until the 6800s came out. Truth be told nvidia is just on top as far as price vs performance with their 6800gt. The x800xt pe imho is still the best video card on the market if you dont count d3, and in real life you will not notice the difference between the xtpe and the 6800u on d3. So ATI is still really on top.


btw, the 6800gt is better than the x800pro, enough of this pointless argument, it just is. I could care less about those nonsense benches you find here and there, the gt tops out the pro in source as well. i run source at 1600x1200 everything high, reflect world, 8xaf, 2xaa and get 75fps. the x800pro cannot do that. 12 pipes vs 16 pipes. enough said.

So your word trumps any benchmarks of the two cards? 12 vs 16 pipes, clock speeds, etc. are not accurate indications of performance. Benchmarks are, and the two cards in question are very close much of the time, with each gaining victories in certain games.

You are right to expect better of me ronnn. But this guy's posts throughout this forum are always nothing but one sided remarks. Show me a thread (in the video forum) where he doesn't trash nvidia somehow (large or small) and I will apologize to him. Some people just bring out the worst in me, and this guy is one of them. So, it's not just from his comment in this thread, it cumulitive of every thread I see him in.

While he's nowhere near as bad as Cindy22 was, he is on the same road.
