So 75% was water and fat, that is a damn good diet. Without added chemicals (steriods), the majority of the population, cannot either gain muscle without gaining fat or lose fat without losing muscle. Losing 3 pounds of fat for every pound of muscle is a good diet. I dont have the data before but I think if you a little looking you will see that most people that diet lose wieght and become fatter by percentage.
When I was all that could and dropped that first 10 pounds, my BF% dropped about 8% according to the scale (it isnt very accurate for this, but it's what I have). Once I lost the other 20 pounds, the percentage went back to my normal before the diet, even though I was 30 pounds lighter by then. In my case, not enough calories taken in to maintain my lean mass and the muscle was catabolised.
BTW, my Dr thinks it is a good diet when done properly, which in all likelyhood most people do not do, the same as every other diet.
I'm also not saying that following some of the other diets would not work well if followed properly, I think they do for some or most people. But no diet works for everybody.
You should only smell bad if you are in ketosis, which he probably was. You dont have to go into ketosis to lose weight, but Atkins does say that you should. I avoided that because of the high blood sugar, it should not have been a problem for a person that still produces insulin, but I didnt want to test that. Also, I wanted a cookie a day .
