Good riddance, too many morons following their crap while the real secret to losing weight is to simply burn calories off through, get this, exercise.
Might want to educate yourself on the subject that you preach...

The Atkins plan is very specific how it outlines exercise and portion control.

Except it's nonsense, expensive nonsense. Eat what you want, just burn your calories off. I eat my cheeseburgers and cake but don't gain a pound. Might have to be due to the 1 hour vigorous bike ride I do daily, 350 days a year. Before I took on exercise, I too was a fatty looking for an easy way to lose a pound. Doesn't work that way. Losing weight is a lifetime committment, not some scam diet plan.

You don't know what you're talking about. You don't "eat what you want" on Atkins. You get rid of high calorie carbs that most people base their diet on. Carbs are burned by your body first because they're easy to break down. If your body doesn't have carbs, it goes into "survival" mode and starts burning fats and fat reserves. You have to spend the first two weeks eating very specific groups of foods, then the next two weeks you get a bit broader menu. After the second two weeks, you can reintroduce low quantities of regular foods, and this is where the diet breaks down. Once you start eating those "regular foods" again, you end up going to your old eating habits.

South Beach on the other hand had the same concept, but different approach. The deal with SB is "Get rid of factory processed and sugared food/drinks, and eat natural". It stressed whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and meats. Essentially drop sugar and enriched white flour. This diet works very well and is very healthy. It's easy to stay on as well. Atkins actually modified it's own diet to be more like South Beach last year.

Know what you're talking about before you criticize something because people will call you out on it.

You may want to develop some better reading comprehension before you go loco on somebody. He is clearly saying that his diet is to "eat what you want, just burn your calories off". Why else does he follow up that statement with "I eat my cheeseburgers and cake...might have to be due to the 1 hour vigorous bike ride".

I can't believe I had to go NFL style play-by-play sentence break down with you.

QFT. This is my new method, except I've been running instead of biking.

Add - Thought they were a premier name brand and when other known brands entered the market, did not price match. Also, the as# tasting stuff they made was never improved when competitive products came out. IOW, too hung up on themselves to recognize they had to compete. Wow, sounds like Steve Jobs worked there.

Yeah, they're about as smart as the people who put down Atkins without knowing a thing about it.

all the people on atkins died of coronary heart disease. They were left with tons of unsold surplus.

It did help my Dad with his diabetes but he is now switched to the South beach diet which is much safer.

I'm thinking you might want to develop some of those skills as well. Vegetation states:

That shows he thinks the diet is a scam, Fritzo actually stated that the diet is not a scam due to his knowledge of it and explained where the common breakdown normally is.

I suggest sullivan learning centers, they do a great job with reading skills and may even teach you how to properly debate

Blame the idiots, not the company or diet. Following the Atkins diet properly doesn't even come close to what many consider "atkins". 99% people never read the book.

Most of the people bashing it on this thread don't know a thing about it. Sadly, most of the people who were "on" the diet didn't know a thing about it, either. Face it- most people in the world are stupid. Am I the only one who actually bought and read the book cover to cover? It says right in there that eating bacon and hamburgers all day isn't healthy.

From what I read, I think he means all diet plans are some form of scam one way or another, not just atkins diet. Burn off what you eat is his message to control weight.

Gotcha. Yes, burning off what you eat is the simplest way to do it but diet plans give people with to little discipline a way to loose or maintain wait. I can't keep up my riding on a daily basis (I ride once or tiwce a week) so I eat a healthier lunch. That allows me to maintain wait instead of becoming a blimp (though my 6' 185 is a bit big). Thats my "diet" and it works. These programs are just structered diets and probably work well IF you do what you are supposed to. I don't think they are all scams.

You think 6' 185 lbs is a bit big? That's still pretty thin I think. I weigh about 183 and I'm only 5'10, and I'm pretty thin.

Huh? Water, maybe. Muscle? No. Where in the heck to you pull that out of?

Actually, the danger could be acidosis for those who do not read the book, gout, and much higher bad fat intake, along with vitamin deficiency.

Of course, Atkins isn't a "scam" diet, although arguably unhealthy for other reasons. Atkins recommended exercise. The scam diets were all the low-carb diets that individuals concocted for themselves--which involved sitting on their asses eating bacon.

If you do some searches you will find plenty examples of my poor debating skills. Not here though.

Why are people so threatened by this diet ? Why is there such animosity towards it ?

A friend of mine lost of 100 pounds on it. He got his blood work back about a month ago and everything is optimal. Not average, not good. Optimal.

So a reduced calorie diet is a "scam" diet? If a fat person loses weight by curbing their food intake that's a scam?
