Looks like this one does not have the most favorable timing or environment for rapid development.
It is expected to face wind shear as it crosses the Gulf.

Yep. Shear and dry air will be limiting factors, hopefully keeping it cat 1 or less.

The majors are coming later.

The storm looks like it has an eye now. Pressure hasn't dropped the last during the last 4 readings but the windspeed has increased to 70. This could be a cat 1 storm now.

Thanks!
Just some heavy rain so far.

Not sure where you are but stay vigilante brother. This thing is only moving at 3mph and will move to open water and will most likely intensify. soaking rain for days if you are near the coast. Could be historic. I've seen 24 inches of rain in days here in South Florida. The rising water can sneak up on you!

24in. That’s starting to get significant. I mean I’ve had over double that but 24 is nothing to sneeze at.

I was making a general statement about so much rain in a short period of time. This storm went around us here on the Atlantic side of South Florida. We got nothing in Pompano Beach\Boca Raton from this storm. (a few outer bands with a couple downpours) I was speaking of April 12-13 2023 (The wettest April on record here ) we had 20 -24 inches of rain in less than 36 hours in Ft Lauderdale all the way up to Deerfield Beach and Down through Hollywood. My house is built 7 feet above Base Flood Elevation (BFE). The finished floor of the living space on any new home construction must be a MINIMUM of 1 foot by Florida law. Still the water in that storm creeped up on my back door and my 2 car garage door. Caused me to go get sandbags for the future. (Already have Hurricane impact windows and doors). With slow moving storms like this, wind is not main issue. The flooding can surprise you quickly!

Oh I know and agree with your point. Was just doing some childish dick measuring.

For us Hurricane Harvey dumped over 50 inches of rain in my area with over 27in across the worst 24hours.

At its worst it was coming down at a sustained rate of 7.5in / hour for two hours straight.

Flooding in the area was swift and catastrophic. We lucked out by being on the high point of rhe neighborhood. The water still came 2/3 the way up our front yard and the lake/retention pond behind our house did come out of its banks but lucky for us at the far end.

Wow! that's an insane amount of rain in that time period. I would need to be standing out in the storm clearing the storm drain next to my driveway of debris. I have been a homeowner in FL for 5 years and been homesteaded (living here) for 3 1/2 years. I have not experienced a direct hit of a strong hurricane yet. I am prepared as can be, but being 1 1/2 - 2 miles inland we could see catastrophic results with a cat 4/5 direct hit. If My daughters didn't go to college at Florida Atlantic, fall in love with the area, get jobs, sprout roots with a big circle of friends and pretty much drop anchor here, I would still be living in the Philly suburbs. My wife was not having it. She needed to be close to her girls.

I simply assumed it was Saharan dust again. But nope, apparently the air above the Atlantic is too warm and this largely inhibits storm initiation.
Was the prediction always fewer, but more powerful, storms?

Why hurricane season is suddenly quiet — and what’s in store

An unusual African monsoon season is not producing the sort of atmospheric seeds that typically go on to become hurricanes. Air high above the tropical Atlantic is so warm that it’s actually preventing storms from brewing.

Pretty wild. Maybe the Sahara will turn green again.

Unfortunately unlikely, it takes a fair bit of persistence with water availability to create a habitat like that long-term, and you really need a few thousand years of growth to develop what most people think of as a rain forest. Might see some actual shrubbery for a while though if this starts to happen seasonally.

It looks like Louisiana is going to get hit by a cat 2 hurricane on 9/11.

For the life of me I don't see why people still live there as much as they get hit with these.

A Cat2 isn't a big deal.
Flooded swamp before, flooded swamp after. Louisiana gonna look the same.
Yeah, No.

I lived in Youngsville, La from late '81 - '87 working as a helicopter mx tech. Two of the small towns my employers used as field bases have basically been wiped off the map by hurricane storm surge. Grand Chenier, La & Cameron, La. are currently left as broken roads to nowhere. Any actual structures that survived (library, town hall) are unusable. Hell, my mobile home was flooded out 3 times.

It's a fact that Louisiana loses feet of coastline every year simply due to erosion. Saltwater incursion also ruins more habitable water and land. Add in hurricane damage OF ANY CAT and there will always be human, financial, agricultural, and cultural damage!
