Been with BoA for 5 years now, and not one complaint. Love their online banking, no fees for getting cash back from grocery stores, etc., and I make sure to use BoA ATM's whenever possible. Of course, I rarely carry cash, so it's really not an issue.

Nope. Never seen or heard of this. Never seen any fees on my statement from any bank I've used. Of course, I've only used accounts that were completely free, no minimum balance, no limited transactions, all that stuff.

some do not show the fee....they actually just added it on to the total price since most people don't check teh mount, but just check to see if they sopped at that paticular store. I have Sovereign, and what they do is they just add it to the amount i took out. So, if i paid $20 for groceries using my debit (as in using my pin), i will get a receipt for $20 from the retailer, but my monthley statement will show $22.50 because of the $2.50 fee.

I tried looking for the terms of this from one of my banks, but all I found was an article.

BTW...you ever move out of Lowell?

Years ago. Moving to Hudson, NH next week.

It would be illegal I think to simply charge more without showing it on the statement. And when signing up for accounts, I've always had accounts that specifically said no fees. I've just never heard of this at all.

no, it shows it on the statement. It is added to the amount you took out, but it is not spelled out for you, they just simply add it and it seems liek you paid 22.50 at the point of sale.

As for free no fee accounts, I have seen a boat load of those, but they only referred to not having fees at ATMs and no fee monthy for checking. They still charged the debit fee. I have seen one bank in Boston that doe snot charge aything, but it's all the way in teh back of my college and it would be a hassle to cash my checks there very week. What bank do you have?

Citibank AA Advantage ATM/Debit mastercard.

I have never paid any fees for using the Debit option.....ever. I can cross check this with all my receipts of items bought.

The only time i pay fees, if you take money out at a non-citibank ATM. Even if its a bank that has no charge citibank will still charge. Also if my account gets below $1500 i pay a small fee a month.

BoA is starting to really suck. I never had to pay a fee if I used another bank's ATM, only the regular ATM fee, when I was at Fleet. Now I have to pay the ATM fee plus BoA's fee of $1.75 for accessing another ATM.

I wished there were more convenient banks near me but there aren't beside Citibank which I hate.

I use Wachovia, and they charge $2 for getting cash from a non-Wachovia ATM. But on top of that, the ATM's you use charge you $2.00. So it costs 4.00 just to get MY MONEY!!!

And while all of you are waiting in line for the ATM, the bank tellers are sitting around doing nothing, banks I use are everywhere I go, and I never pay a fee.

I think it's time you get yourself a decent bank/credit union. Sounds like you are taking it up the ass.

I'm happy with Citizens. No fees of any kind, free to use the ATMs, only 50 cents to a dollar to use another ATM. Great bank.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Don't ask for more money than you have and don't go over your daily limit.

I like mine even more - they don't have any ATMs. They just refund you the first $6/month that you spend on ATM fees. So I don't worry at all about who owns the ATM since I rarely use one more then 3-4 times a month.

they should add something in the software to allow you to get your maximum or give you your maximum if you are trying to get more then your daily maximum. I have an account at a credit union and I can go to most credit unions and get cash for free.

I have USAA, and never get charged any fees of any kind unless I overdraft, then it's $25 per transaction. I don't get any out-of-network ATM fees, no "Debit network" fees, no fees to transfer money, no yearly or monthly fees, no minimum balance or anything.

I hate banks. The have a fee for everything you do. I know my bank can't change for using my debit card as a credit card or using it at there ATMs so that is all I will do with it. Fvck I'm not going to give them one damn dime in fees.

I use DCU. They don't charge fees for anything normal (charge for overdrawing with a paper check only, but they always pay the check still and my account goes negative balance or withdraws from savings if I had any money there). VISA card through them is low interest (9.9% for several years, they just changed to variable and now is 10.25%). No fees for using other ATMs. No fees for using my debit card (that's just stupid, why stay with any bank that does that?). Cash advances on my credit card are treated just like purchases. Refund of up to 5 dollars a month for any ATM fees from other companies (except the first 4 charges) and no fees from ATMs that are within the SUM network. The only requirement is that a paycheck or some other income has to be Direct Deposited (which also gets better interest rates on loans and VISA).

Lack of anything better. It's not so bad anymore now that more and more places are taking credit cards. It's just those rare times I have to go get cash, and it's always usually for something to eat. There's just a major lack of choice around here. The only banks are really Wachovia, BoA and BB&T, and they're all pretty similar in fee structure. There are a ton of smaller banks and credit unions, but with how I travel I would wind up in the same situation regardless. I'm looking though...
