Long article

"The denial fee applies to each request to withdraw funds at a non-Bank of America ATM that is denied because the request exceeds either your available balance or your daily cash limit,"

Im starting to hate bank of america... they nickle and dime people to death..

And on another note, with all of this technology going around, you'd think economies of scale and advancement in banking technology would eliminate the need for banking fee. Why should i get charged 3-4 bucks to take out 20$ at a non-BoA ATM? It can't cost them more than a nickle to process the transaction. 20% is a higher rake than most casinos for cyrin out loud!

BOA bought Fleet. Fleet was terrible. Them buying Fleet just told me that they would end up like Fleet again. It is happening and I am glad I am not part of BOA. Oh, btw, BOA charges $2. for an atm fee....this place was not in a mall, or a them aprk, but next to where I work. Atleast when Fleet was around, they had the lowest atm fee of the bunch ($1).

i don't think technology is the issue...people are willing to pay it, so they get away w/ it...

'Wrong ATM' charges cost $4 billion a year

And banks face fees from each other, so consumers should expect to cover some of that cost when they use the "wrong ATM."

It all makes some sense, except that last point, which is hard to swallow. Banks may well be charging each other indiscriminate fees, but does that mean they should pass those fees on to us?

Personally i try not to take money out of a non-Citibank ATM.

Looking at my statements, i havent been charge anything from Citibank in months.

I love Wells Fargo. They have so many ATMs all over that I rarely need to use a competitors machine.

I still remember the day when they were begging people to use ATMs. It is only after they became widely accepted that they started to impose fees.

instead of using ATMs just walk into a supermarket grab a gum/candy and pay through the self checkout using your debit/atm and withdrawl without the atm fees.

I live in NH/MA. I've never heard of anyone having to pay a fee to use a debit card to pay at a cashier of any sort.

Avoid ATMs that charge fees (usually you can find one that is in a "network" with your own bank so they don't charge fees to each others customers). I get reimbursed up to 5 dollars a month by DCU for any fees I pay.

You do not pay it at the time of purchase. In other words, the fee doe snot show up when you pay for an item. It is a fee that is tacked at the end of the day. I think Citizens Bank shows tshi quite well. When you get your statement, it shows how much you paid, but it puts an asteric next to teh purchase letting you know that there is a fee added that was no seen when you purcahsed the item. Basically, if you use your pin number, you get a fee. If you use your debit card as credit, you will not because you are using the visa or mastercard network.

Nope. Never seen or heard of this. Never seen any fees on my statement from any bank I've used. Of course, I've only used accounts that were completely free, no minimum balance, no limited transactions, all that stuff.
