Well, the argument has been made we dropped the bomb on Japan because we saw the Japanese, and Orientals, as inferiors. This was not only the case before the war, but was a result of American propaganda to incite Americans against their enemy.
Unfortunately, the side effect is that after the war is over it is more difficult to get people to see their former enemies as human beings.
Dare I say that is a problem happening today where many Americans see Muslims as inferiors, not deserving to live?
I don't think the fear of the Japanese vs Muslims is really the same. The US only felt the Japanese as a threat during the war (i.e. internment camps). After the war, there wasn't much to fear but with Muslims and terrorism it's much worse. Terrorism is almost impossible to stamp out and intangible, whereas the Japanese army was a tangible threat we could defeat. I don't think there will ever be an end to the fear against Muslims, not in our lifetimes.
