Exactly my point. Drop a bomb on Iraq and Afghanistan and we can "save" more lives there too.
We've probably killed as much as an A-bomb there already anyway. An A-bomb would be more cost and life-effective.
How so? Nuke whom in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Now if you proposed nuking the House of Saud and the beloved patriot Intelligence Service that would probably take care of Al Queda and the Taliban.

From what I learn from the average American, and American TV - they are all the same.

Talk about revisionist...Back in those days...Gay meant happy...the homosexuals were just called queers.

BTW, why do homosexuals call themselves Gay? Very few of them seem like they're very happy?

Hell, why stop there? No sense in leaving a job less than half done. Just lay waste to the entire Middle East...ALL of it, Israel included. Leave nothing above ground except American oil wells.

Unfortunately, Japanese were asking for it.
The war on their end was their choice. It was a totally unnecessary choice. IMO, Hirohito should of been hanged or his head should be chopped off.

P.S. Invasion of Japan would killed at least 5 million people, so 200k A bomb victims pales in comparison. Tragic - yes, but they were asking for it big time.

This is Tokyo after fire bombing. How is this any less worse than Hiroshima or Nagasaki?
The place is just as flattened. The people were just as dead, and there were more of them dead than at Hiroshima.

Why is it that because it only took one bomb to level a square mile of Hiroshima does that make it so much more terrible?

BTW, none of these bombings are any more terrible and brutal than the crimes against humanity the Japanese committed throughout Asia during the war. And even though they've offered a few lame apologies, they didn't really mean them....they still gloss over their own brutality, and teach that Hiroshima was an atrocity.

Because it only took one bomb?

<--Not saying it was any more or less terrible...it was just a decision made during wartime. It is an awesome level of destruction for only one bomb dropped by one plane.

War sucks.

But sometimes it is the only option.

My Dad used to have a client that was a teenager living just outside of Hiroshima when they dropped the bomb. She said it made the most beautiful colors in the sky and everyone in her little town were all amazed at what they saw...these amazing colors filling the sky.

Then the next day people started showing up, burned, maimed and half-dead. She said this went on for days...people from Hiroshima just stumbling through their town and nobody had any idea what happened until American troops showed up. She said she could not ever forget the sight of all these people walking half dead, trying to help some, and comforting others as they died.

Sometimes it's the only option, but war sucks...

Chillax everyone, WWII is over.

Yes, it is sad that both sides lost lives and loved ones. But look at this way, what if the bomb didn't drop. Would history be different? I guess so.

Then lets move on to more important issues ! chop chop !

My dad was stationed in the Philippines (today is his birthday). He was among some of the first ground troops to go to Hiroshima. I took him his present today and we got to talking about it. He said the most memorable thing about it was the lack of rubble from all the destruction. It was unlike all the other sites he had been to that were bombed out, in that rather than all the buildings laying in heaps it was like it had been swept clean. There was nothing.

that actually was a csb

I lived in Hiroshima for a while. The city is nice and the people friendly. My co-worker's parents both lived through the bomb, but died in their 60's due to deteriorating health from their exposure.

Talking about the bombing is something that I think isn't suited for a place like ATOT, online forums don't produce the most civilized discourse. :|

Millions of civilians died in WW2. No one was 'just' and every side committed what would be called war crimes by current definitions.

Japan made its bed by choosing to attack us on Dec. 7, 1941. It's not like there were no civilian casualties that day and anyone holding a grudge this long because of the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are just being ignorant. It's amazing to me that some people just don't grasp the concept of war. I compare it to a bully who just doesn't stop pissing in your cheerios and one day you just grow tired of his shit and pop him in the mouth. Once we did that to Japan, heh, I think they figured out their mistake.

It's truly sad that any human life need be sacrificed for any reason, but unfortunately, that is the downside of mankind and I do not see that changing anytime soon.

My Aunt and her family spent 4 years in a japanese concentration camp, probably would not have survived along with many others had it not been for those bombs

Has Japan fixed their textbooks yet?

I wish someone was at the Hiroshima ceremony holding up a sign that read "The Bomb saved lives!"

There is a very simple lesson to be learned. Don't allow extremists to take over your country.

I would love to hear how you tie evolution and nuking Japan together.

It probably has something to do with the sun god that created the Japanese people. Maybe he farted, or burped, but whatever he did, the textbooks teach that he did it twice.
