DO THIS:

put them 2 inches a part facing each other (duh)

Once your in learning mode, PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE RADIOSHACK REMOTE that you WANT TO "LEARN" a code (don't hold it down)

Then, without delaying, hit the button on your original remote ONCE (don't hold it down).

The radioshack should say learning and then success..

the instructions tell you to hold down stuff and do it the otherway around, and that did nothing but cause me problems.

Thanks a lot man. Totally worked, although it said MEMFULL a few times (theres too many damn buttons for direct tv). I hope it has different memory for the macros.

I got an x10, but I have a remote, so I would just suggest making it learn functions from the remote... seems to work the easiest and quickest. Wait, doesn't x10 use RF not IR? I mean mine has an antenna, sooooooo ......

i havent got a chance to tool around with it much yet, but it looks like a good remote.

has anyone tried it on a samsung lcd with tv input?

Which did you get? The touch screen 2107 or the 2116?

Hey RossMAN I got the 2107 maybe I should consider the 2116.

El Norm - Unless you want the touch screen 2107 I would get the 2116 since it's:

1) The same price
2) More of a traditional remote with the pushbuttons
3) Uber nerdyness of the JP1 serial thing-a-ma-bobber

First, thanks guys.

I scored the last one in N. Virginia (some still left in DC however). The store actually had 2 left but an employee took the other after seeing what a deal it was.

I've been looking for a JP1 compatible remote to fool with so I guess this will do.

Actually been impressed lately with the RS inventory system, actually had the things in stock as computer said. Normally its one big CF around here.

Well, local Radio Shack had 3 in stock, I grabbed 2 of them, might take back the 2nd one, bought it for someone but they don't need it. Overall, I like the remote, I just wish the remote would actually show what the AUX buttons are controlling, instead of just "Aux1, Aux2, etc.). Also, I haven't been able to get the learning system to work right with my DVD player so far, I walk through the learning process for stuff like Menu, Audio, Etc. and it says Success but then when I actually go back and try to control the DVD player using the new learned functions, they don't work :frown:.
Still, I would say that this is a better remote than my previous universal remote. My wife is going to hate this one and probably stick with the old one tho since the 2107 is quite a bit more technical.

Saw this post yesterday, was somewhat interested... got home, and home theater had just arrived! Went to store, spent $$$ for cables, wife said no to the remote. Finished hooking up everything at 2am (uggghhh had to be up at 6am)... tried it out... I need to use 4 remote controls! Soooo.... who cares what the wife said, I've got the last one on hold til I get to my local store I'm sure my wife will give in... she'll never be able to learn how to use all the other remotes. Thanks for the deal and the info, everyone.

It does...look at the upper left corner of the display and it will indicate if it is a TV, DVD, etc that is programmed for the mode key you have selected.

Regarding the problem with programming...you need to follow the instructions. You have to do the entire process in sequence beqinning with selecting the mode key you want to program first prior to entering the program mode.

Ionizer posted this a little bit ago. Maybe this will fix your problem:

Hmmm....I did Learning the way the instructions said, and it worked no problem. Also, mine does NOT seem overly sensitive like some reviews are claiming.

Is it just me, or does this LCD remote ALSO have the J1 interface (visible when you take the battery cover off)?

I tried to move some buttons (for example, a couple from stereo to the CAB/DSS menu where we have 3 open spaces). It copied the functions, but it LOOKS like no buttons there!!! It's still blank. Anybody else tried this? I needed an A, B, C for Time Warner Digital on the CAB menu. As it is, I just have to *remember* I have them in those 3 blank spaces (not even a box around to show a button is programmed there).

Not that anyone cares...but I thought I would post my final remote control decision. Went by RS and picked up the last (display) model 2107. Figured I should start with that one since it was the last one on the face of the earth....at least in my neck of the woods. After picking it up I took the toddler to the park to play. So while she played, Mom got to check out the new remote. My gosh that thing is HUGE! After looking at it a while I decided it was just too big for my hands. If I were a man with bigger hands it might have been okay, but as bad as I hated to I decided to take it back. It was *really* cool though. The salesman loved seeing it come back because he wanted it for himself. He hadn't realized they had been marked down that much. But practical won out over coolness and I exchanged it for the 2116. Brought it home and had it pretty much up and running in about 20-30 minutes (this was with my 2 year old helper underfoot too). So far I'm a happy camper. I even managed to get a macro programmed to turn on the cable box, tv and receiver and switching the remote to "my system" all with one button. Using the "my system" button I can finally use the same remote to change the channel on the cable box and adjust the volume via the receiver without having to change devices or use separate remotes. That function alone is worth the money to me. My hubby is going to be thrilled. After buying our HDTV and Home Theater system around Christmas, he's griped every day about having to use three remotes just to turn the tv on and having to use separate remotes for the volume and channel. He's not a techy, gadget sort of guy either....so I'm thinking he would like the more traditional looking remote over the touch screen one. But man, it was cool looking! I so badly wanted it to work out.

So Rossman....you and I can be the 2116ers of the bunch. Can't wait to see how you like yours. Only drawback is now my 11 yr. old son wants one for his bedroom

I've got a spare one that I bought to day for my tax guy (aka my cousin), but he's already got a Pronto, so he doesn't want it. If anyone wants it, let me know. I'll take $40 shipped for it, which I think it fairly reasonable. If I don't hear anything from anyone by Friday, I'll just return it to the Ratshack, just thought I'd offer to anyone who wasn't able to get one.

Also wanted to add that if anyone is near Benton, Arkansas.....I was told their store has five of the touchscreen remotes left. Hope that helps someone. Naturally, I'd call first to double check before driving very far.

That's what I was wondering. Since I have no experience with the J1 connection, I dunno tho. I thought the J1 connector looked more like a parallel port connection. I don't think this is a J1 connection on the 2107, would like to know if there's a way to hack it tho, you gotta figure there is, it would just take someone doing it (someone that's not me, since I have no programming or hacking skills in general).

Regarding the problem with programming...you need to follow the instructions. You have to do the entire process in sequence beqinning with selecting the mode key you want to program first prior to entering the program mode.

DO NOT. I REPEAT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS LISTED IN THE BOOK FOR LEARNING.
FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS LISTED IN THIS THREAD. The only way you get it to work by following the book is through luckiness of timing it properly (in which case your actually doing my method, but just getting lucky about how you do it) It doesn't make sense to hit the button on the TEACHER remote first, since when you hit the LEARN on the receive, it could be receiving the signal midway through!! That's why you tell the LEARNER (radioshack) remote to accept a signal on whatever key, then the signal comes. Even if you get it to work through the manual's way, my way still makes more sense and works 100% of the time, but hey do whatever you want!

Additional note: After it says success, you have to hold down "p" to exit the programming mode before you test it. This does work, and if you can't get it to work you are probably still confused (like I initially was) that despite the labeling of "dvd/vcr, sat" etc at the bottom, you can assign whatever you want. So when you are configuring the button to learn, first hit the tv, dvd/vcr, etc, then go into program mode, then exit, then make sure u are on the correct device, and the button will work.

I AM RETURNING *TWO* to the OLD BRIDGE store on ROUTE 9, in NEW JERSEY *TOMMOROW EVENING* After 5:15pm.
(Provided no one contacts me asking to ship it to them before then)

Why? I thought my friends would want this or I could help out a fellow AT'er, but no one seems to be willing to even pay the Actual cost + tax + S&H + $4 profit for the gas I used to drive 60 miles to get it and my time. So it's not worth it to deal with the hassle of just sending it out at cost, so I am letting you know that I will be returning the two extras to that store, if anyone wants to grab it.

In any case, I am very happy with mine and if I lived in my own house and had two major rooms with lotsa dvds/vcrs, etc, I would keep a second one.

This is well worth the money, so back to Ratshack tom evening, unless someone tells me they want one or two of them beforehand for $42.00 shipped PRIORITY (would go out tommorow). (Non-cc paypal funds, if using cc-paypal funds add $1.25 to cost to cover fees)

Wow these shits were hard to get. I called about 4 RadioShacks in the Brooklyn area and 2 claimed they had it until I got there. One said they couldn't find anymore left, offered to sell me one open box and as is, and the other one said we sold out. I finally found one RS that had some in the back back back of the inventory. I bought the last two for a total of $64.

Anyone know if they work with DirecTV satellite or Dish?

one more time -- the 2107 has the JP1 interface already built in-- this should be 6 pins probably near the battery opening. The JP1 cable you can make will translate these 6 pins to a parallel port interface for your computer

has anyone else noticed that the memory on these blows?
i used the learning function to program in my apex dvd player and i couldnt even do all the buttons before it was full. i figured that it had a certain amount of memory for each device, so i tried selecting another device and tried teaching it the functions of my lcd remote and it wouldnt let me. it said "memory full, exiting". could that be right? it only has the memory to learn about 20 buttons total?
