Do you have 'empty' selected in your filters? Any filters you select will also apply to favorites and history.

DOH what a dumbass I am. I had that checked and I haven't seen the server empty that offer so it would always show up for me. Do people still play on it?

It's been empty recently, but there will be random spikes of huge traffic. For example, last Tuesday it was full for almost 36hrs straight. When do you generally play?

Hi all,

Sorry I've been kind of MIA lately - things like "life" have been keeping me busy.

That being said, I'm starting to get the feeling that the wind is coming out of our sails a little bit here. I'm not sure if there's waning interest in the game (although I don't think that's entirely it) or what but I can say that after about 72 hours of a dead server, I can't see us (and by us, I mean me - this time, the donations you guys chipped in have kept us afloat after the initial month) keeping the server active.

Don't get me wrong, I love playing on it and I really like playing with you guys but there's no sense in paying good money for something that's never used. Sure when we try to get it seeded it *sometimes* works, but I'm starting to feel like it's more like work than playing a game, ya know? So that's...bad.

It's a shame all of the peripheral things about this game make it so difficult because the gameplay itself is a blast and a half

The loss of the Tugboat server would be a real shame, but I understand that good things don't come for free. I'm wondering if anyone who plays on other servers and knows of their inner workings can give us some impressions on what makes some servers go for the long haul. I played on the same BF2 servers for several years. Perhaps the only servers that last are ones with paying clan members who report regularly to play/practice. From what I've seen, the vast majority of BC2 servers are now empty at any given time, so the Tugboat isn't out of the ordinary, but a few draw regular audiences. As far as I can tell, these are clan-run.

Someone on the Gameservers forum the other day mentioned that something like 75% of all servers were empty at any given time.

I think alot of people have bailed on BC2. I normally like to play Rush HC, and it's tough to find servers in this configuration with people in it. Most of the servers that come up have 0 people.

In my experience these items are key:

  • A large group of "regulars" to populate the server (keep it from being empty, not fill it).
  • Admins that are friendly to newbies, but strict on enforcing rules.
  • Not too many BS rules. Just the minimum that most people agree with.
  • Admins available just about 24/7, to squelchs issue that could empty the server.
  • An open TS/Vent server
  • A web site with forums to build friendships and loyalty

There are just too many servers. Virtually all the Battlefield clans got 1 or more BFBC2 servers. Most of the Gaming forums I visit had members setting up servers. Some compained that they had too many servers set up by their members. The cost of entry is so low, anybody could do it, so they did. Random doctors did it. Random plumbers did it. Even struggleing actors with a video game addiction did it!

A lot of people, having played for several days worh of time, have had the chance to see, try, and do, just about everything the game has to offer. The fervent discovery phase is over. The initial passion is satisfied. Now, only those that found true, mature love, will remain.

No, I don't do greeting cards.

Honestly, from this list, it seems Jschmuck and the Tugboat have done everything right.

There are just too many servers.

Maybe this is the real problem, and the Tugboat just had a bad day or two that knocked it off people's lists. The other ATOT server, Free Beer and Wings, was full last night and I had a great time on it, backing up GullyFoyle and a few other ATOTers. Guess it's just luck of the draw...both are good servers, although only the Tugboat has a vent server as far as I know.

So, DICE, how about that broken in-game chat feature???

Also, some maps (and game modes in the case of BC2) are more popular than others. My community switched one of our servers to 24/7 Valdez and Valparaiso only and have been full for the last 96 hours or so straight.

I had this working for a few days ... not sure how, haha. But one person started talking, then 5 seconds later 3 others in the squad started to talk, it was awesome.

Then it stopped .

About 85% of the time I try to play on servers nearest to me. Servers with 110 or less ping response time are ideal choices for me. I hate lagging in servers. The Tugboat server is a little too far for me but I pop in once in a while.

I am sorry I haven't been on as much. Massive upgrades at work = 70 hour week this week and 60+ last week.

Sucks, esp. taxes taking 24%.

i checked at 11pm central and it was empty

We had four people on from about 9:15pm-9:45pm Eastern. Fun for a skirmish, but not quite what we were looking for. Maybe it should be another day of the week....I know there are still plenty of us that want to play, just not 24/7 like when we first got it.

Ah i think its just the season....its starting to get warm out and colleges are having finals/going into the summer break. I used to see this alot in games especially in MMOs where normally you need people. I, myself, havent been playing as much just in general, not that I do not like the game but I think I was being excessive and I am trying not to get bored of the game by limiting my game play time.
