The cabin fever is starting to make me crazy. I find myself going into my camper just to look around and mess with things. Walking around Dicks Sporting Goods in a daze looking at all the hiking/camping stuff. Surfing sites like REI and the like with an itchy "add to cart" finger. Today I couldn't take it anymore and threw my kayak in the back of the truck and went out to my favorite local spot to get an outdoor fix.

I remember talking about places with some folks here before. This winter has just been teh suck ...

So what are your plans for this year? Already got my reservations in for Gettysburg PA but that trip isn't till October. The wife and I have talked about doing an overnight camp-hike 16 the Batona trail in the Pine Barrens this year. But I want to go some place different. Someone here mentioned Letchworth state park in NY in another thread. But anyway...

Feel free to share what your outdoorsy plans are for this year.

Planning on hiking up Mt Marcy in NY next month (tallest mountain in NY in the Adirondacks, though our mountains aren't really that tall (5000 and some odd feet).

Possibly buying a campsite & building a cabin.

Camping at the lake in July for a couple weeks

Camping at the lake again in August for a few days

And we were talking to some family members about doing some hiking at Letchworth in the next few weeks.

Really depends on work for me as to what all i do this year so some of this might be more of a this summer or next summer list. Not all are that exciting but still areas i want to go back to.

-Lake Constance....nice lake!
-7 Lakes Basin area in the Olympic National Park (be a 2-3 nighter there)
-Pacific Crest Trail from Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass (75 miles is...try to do it in 4 nights)
-Wonderland Trail (90 mile circle around Mt. Rainier...6 or 7 nights probably maybe more though)

Thats all that comes to mind. There will be plenty more but itll be day hikes. GF races mountain bikes so ill tag along and while she is racing ill go exploring

Lake Havasu Falls in mid June

Utah Canyons over July 4th week - did Bryce & Zion 2yrs ago so want to see Grand Staircase-Escalante, Glen Canyon, Cedar Breaks - and maybe convince the wife to try Zion's Angels Landing again as she could nut overcome the fear of heights to do the last 1/2 mile.

We also weekend camp 2-3x a month at a local resort up until mid October.

The only trip I have scheduled so far this year is to a private campground for an extended weekend near Knoebles amusement park in PA with friends of ours from the Balitimore area.
I want to haul the camper to somewhere outside of Pittsburgh so we can do Kennywood, the Pittsburgh zoo, and make a Pirates game at PNC park
On the more "outdoorsy" theme, I still have not made it to Letchworth (despite living about 2.5 hours away) and would love to spend time camping there too. Maybe a trip to somewhere in the Adirondacks too.

I am with you, KDOG. I am ready for some camping! I wish I could drain the antifreeze out of the camper, but with this weeks lows forecast for teens, I can't do it just yet.

We do a yearly week long dispersed trip to Allegheny National Forest. One full week where we might see one or two other people; can't wait to go again. A previous year's site :

I also LOVE to kayak, and am thinking of buying one this year if I can find a good price on a 11' + model. Have to wait until Easter before the rental camps open around here.

1st week in July, I'm climbing 3 peaks in California: Shastina (the 12,000' satellite cone of Mt Shasta), then onwards to Mt. Shasta's summit (~14,100'), then a few days later Mt. Lassen (~10,000')

1) Moving the camper to the beach property mid April, followed by a charter fishing trip the following weekend. Going out for sea bass and ling cod. Clamming on that Sunday.
2) 4th of July in the Cascades, so far 4 of us have reserved a site. Dogs don't like fireworks, and no fireworks in the woods equals win!
3) group site reserved for late September. The site will handle 60 folks easily.
4) Fill in trips to the beach lot whenever the weather says go.

Cross lake is in Crow Wing county not Mille Lacs. There's plenty of property for sale in both but, it's all pretty expensive. Lake property in particular is very pricey but, I suppose it's a matter of perspective. When I was a kid, Maddens Lodge was 5 cabins for rent. Now it's a destination resort.

Booked campsites yearly on the year. We are going 5 times this year. Tent/car camping. 1st trip will be memorial day weekend.

We'll be hiking/biking a lot as well.

Four weeks till I take one of my week long backcountry hikes. This year Ive got about 90 miles of trails in the Smokies mapped out. Includes some peaks there and some AT hiking as well, which may or may not be full of thru hikers.

Going with some friends and a sister I havent seen in a few years.

I try to take three trips like this every year, one in each season if possible.

would you say it is true that central minnesota is becoming crowded with twin cities folk buying cabins up there?

Getting the ATV out (for the first ride this year) next weekend. One of my favorite ride spots up past State College, Snow Shoe, offers a nice 19 mile rail trail to ride, with another 60+ miles of side trails nearby:

We usta make a special trip to a supposedly abandoned beaver dam, but the size and the sturdy construction of it indicates something was doing regular maintenance to it to keep that much water from overwhelming the dam.

Hoping to get in some camping onsite as well.

Yeah. I took off the tarp off the camper last week because it started to fail. I was hoping to be able to leave it off but - of course - there's another system moving in so I put another one back on.

Great pics guys. Just feedin the fever I tell you! I want to do more tent camping too in which I will most likely combine it with backpacking. I've kind of "claimed" my favorite area as mine to frequent. It's a nice area but neglected. The people throwing trash on the ground are a problem. I've cleaned up the boat launch area and trailhead twice now. Getting the Park office to do anything is well, blah.

Anyway. I still want to visit NY state areas. It's not far either. My stepsons scout troop is planning a hiking trip to someplace in Maine which I'd love to be able to go along but it's the week before we go to Gettysburg so I doubt I will be able to do both.

Maybe we could make this the default thread for this subject. When you get some pics etc, post em here kinda thing. Just a thought.

Depends on what you consider crowded. My grandparents tended to move whenever someone got within 5 miles. As far as buying cabins and lake property, all the available land was purchased by the "twin city " folk by the early 50's. Most areas are fairly rural but, towns have grown a lot.
