I got sick exactly 4 weeks ago. Dry cough, low grade fever. After a couple of days, the virus really kicked in and made my lungs feel like they were on fire. That only last a day or two though
What really fucked me up was the bronchitis I always get after flu-like viral infections. In the past, my doctor would give a Zpak or something similar and within days, the chest congestion would be gone.
This time though, the bronchitis wasn't that bad so my doctor said let's wait a few days and see how it goes.
I was probably being a hypochondriac but after a couple of days I still had congestion and a cough - a wet, productive cough not the dry one I started out with. So the doc gave me a course of augmentin. I don't thing that helped much but at the end of the week of treatments, the congestion was a little better.
Still, I was very concerned about getting pneumonia so I went to another doctor to have him listen to my lungs. That was this past Sunday. He said they were completely clear. He told me that often the symptoms of an illness persist even after you're cured. And he was right. Within a couple of days the cough and congestion were gone.
Of course I can't be certain that I had covid but I firmly believe that I did. Whatever I had was much worse that garden variety influenza. Going on that assumption, I'm quite proud of myself for getting through this virtually unscathed and despite my age of 63.
