Where is this 'rest of us' you speak of? I am slightly offended by that. Who the hell do you think you are?

I appreciate the community and I joke and neff just like everyone else here. Just because you personally find me as an annoyance, that doesn't mean you're suddenly 'the everyone'. And you presumptuously offer an ?advice? based on my personality in the forums? Gimme a break.

You know I meant well. Relax. Have a beer.

You project a personality on ATOT. If you are unwilling to live with the consequences then stop doing it. I base advice to you here on your behavior here, just as I would do to someone in person. Given that, I say stick with A since they don't mind your unusual personality.

And the "rest of us" are the large number of people who respond in any one of your belligerent and/or nonsensical threads. Search for your own posts and you'll see what I mean.

Aw, you're mad? I didn't know you took my posts so personally all this time. I had no idea I had this kind of effect on you. I'll be nice. Sorry.

I'm not mad; I'm offering you advice. The advice is to stay with the company that knows your personality unless you don't like the people. The advice is partially based on your personality here, but also on experience working at jobs where the people suck.

Thank you. I'll take that advice to heart & definitely take things into consideration. See how nice that was?

That being said, I say this with no ego, you should really lighten up a lil bit. People come to ATOT to be a retard, neff, bitch and moan, all in all for fun and as a small escape from their work and life.

Considering some of your previous threads and the negativity people have towards you here,

And work on your delivery and lose the presumptious attitude.

My escape is making fun of people who come to ATOT to "be a retard". It is very satisfying.

This is simple.

You go with B, because a company has no 'soul', they could care less about you than you think. Never fall into the trap of thinking you owe them anything. That doesn't mean you burn bridges, you need to be politically correct, et. al.

um, option 3 is the only rational option. How can you decide on either 1 or 2 if you don't have full information on Company B? You're acting like you've got a decision to make right now, when in fact you don't. The only decision you can make at this point is to collect more informaiton on Company B. In other words, option 3!

By the way. Travel is not a perk, IMO.

Depends on the situation. If he's not away for long and going to cool places then it's a perk. If he is away often but gets a per diem that makes him effectively paid a lot more, it's a perk. If his girlfriend will get lonely and cheat on him, it's not a perk.

umm...no.

You accept the promotion, and still pursue job B. If B works out, great, if it doesnt, you still got promoted at job A. You dont ever tell your boss you will think about it when offered a promotion, unless a relocation or massive increase in responsibility is required.

option 3. Also as others have said, the travel gets old real quick. I did it for a year and a half before I got burnt out. If you can use the travel gig as a stepping stone to an even better local job down the road then it has it's advantages but I wouldn't plan on it being a career. The people I know who have been doing it for a really long time are usually divorced at least once if not a couple times.

Yea I think after 57 replies, option 3 is the best way to go.

Travel does get old quick I assume. That's why I do it now than ever. I'm 26. I don't plan on doing that crap on my family when after I'm married with kids.

This is not as complicated as you are making it out to be.

- Take the promotion. Absolutely. There is NO reason to delay, haggle, or anything else. Take it.

- If the other company makes you an offer afterwards, and you like it, then take the new job. Tell your boss that while you feel awkward leaving so soon after you've been promoted, you received an offer for a better position elsewhere and you're taking it.

It's really that simple.

On a side note, constant travel can really wear you down. It's fun for a little while, but it gets old fast. It may not be as appealing as you might think.

A sound advice. But you know you just have to get it out of your system no matter what others tell you? That's me with traveling.

Have you ever traveled for work? Most people hate it. It sucks. You live out of airports and hotels. You are by yourself most of the time. Your relationship with friends will suck. If you have a gf, she will probably hate it. Yea sure it's cool once in a while to go out of town and eat and drink on company dime but it gets old really fast. It only works if you travel with a group of coworkers that you are friends with.

Absolutely, and I just have to get it out of my system while I'm young (26). What am I gonna do? Never do it and always wonder for rest of my life? Life is all about new experiences and discovery.

I'd kill myself if I got stuck in the cube all day AGAIN doing exact same shit day after day.

Man it sounds like you work for a crappy company. There are awesome companies out there. Open cubes, bagels, catered lunch, foosball, everyone is in their 20s and 30s...just look harder. I don't know where you are but there are a lot in San Jose and Santa Monica.

This is the most selfish choice and will burn some bridges, especially my boss who loves me. But that is of course only if I get B.

um.. no brainer

you have to look out for yourself. screw the company. they will lay you off in a heartbeat.

This thread is worhtless without a poll.

That being said, take the raise and still listen for company b. If b offers, ask them if you can ocme to work for them in 4 weeks (instead of two). If yes, accept the job and then explain that you have been given an awesome opportunity, thank you for the opportunities at that job, yadda, yadda, yadda.

if no, still take the job. tell company a that your priorities in life have changed and this new company offer fits really well (mention the travel part as something you've really wanted to do your whole life).

Don't lose sleep or stop eating becasue of this.

NOW GET BACK TO WORK, SLACKER!

I did it for a couple years, and I was done. I was getting sick all the time and a little stressed out. However, making connections at the companies i visited opened up some job opportunities for me, so it may be a good way to check out potential locations if you get the urge to move to a different part of the country.

Since Al Gore, an AMERICAN, invented it.

Thanks for the laugh.

Ah, I see. So in other words you come onto ATOT and intentionally act like an ass in order to annoy the rest of us. Good to know. Based on this and the fact that you posted this thread here on ATOT, my advice is to stop posting here.

lol yeah E, the internet is serious business you need to treat it as such.

Let company A know about the offer from Company B and the position you will be taking there. Your current company may counter with more money and give the the Project Manager Title... if thats what you want.

Not likely. Company A is cheap and the promotion is HIGHLY in demand by others if I were to haggle.

Either I keep it a secret or tell and leave the company altogether. I really don't think this is a wise route for my particular position.
Ok so if the promotion is in such high demand why even ask us? 3 is a no brainer. Its not like they are just hiring you, they will fill it fast with someone else. Don't be so dramatic.
