Personally, if it was me, I'd just go and talk to the CEO again. Tell them that you really enjoy working there, but you value your job security too. That your family has to depend on you having a stable permanent job. Temp was fine for awhile, but at some point, you need to find something more dependable as you have mouths to feed back home. If something can't be arranged soon, you may have to look elsewhere, even though you don't really want to do it as you like working there.

In many situations this is a chess game. They took their move. They moved a pawn up, blew smoke up your ass, and now it's your turn on what to do. You need to make the next move or nothing will happen. Put the ball in their court.

Good idea.

1. Follow up with your boss/CEO
2. Brush off your resume

Not necessarily in that order

I would start looking for a new job.

Now to something that has me a bit concerned...overtime is not a benefit, so please explain to me why you are not receiving it. Are you classified as an IC or a Temp Ee?

They are using you OP.

And every time you see "thank you" what they really mean is "good job sucker".

Start looking for another job that will value your hard work.

he's really not the type to blow smoke. He will just flat out tell you how it is and if you don't like it, oh well.

I don't think they are not hiring me for any reason other than the chaos lately. I can't get too far into details but we basically bought a whole company, took it over, stocked its stores, set up computers in all the stores and set up a new warehouse all in 30 days (all of this in 3 different states than our own). That's on top of the other Christmas madness (we are a cell phone wholesaler, so this time of year is super busy).

I don't want to seem ungrateful or like I am trying to put them on the spot. But I also don't want to be in the position I am in. Being a grown up sucks sometimes

Then my only question is, is the job and the compensation worth the wait? Things will slow down in the next month or two, and he will get around to it.

Is the job/company worth this investment to YOU?

I will say this, don't threaten to find new works or quit if you don't get your way unless you're actually willing to do it. Making a threat and then not following up on it will definitely cut your nuts off in that place.

First, depends on the laws in your state, but I don't think temps are exempt from overtime.

Second, what kind of temp travels and sets up new stores?

Are you an independent contractor? Working through a contracting company? A temp agency?

If you are not a full time employee with beanies after 6 months (typical of probation period), time to get another job.

The owner can't override the CEO if he wants you bad enough? <not compute>

Don't accept excuses - it is trivial for them to hire you if they really want to hire you. If you don't have benefits through a spouse, it is important to get them and I'd reiterate my concern to your manager one more time. In the meantime, start looking for other jobs. You might be amazed at how quickly they can suddenly hire you if you tell them you have another offer but would prefer to remain with them.
This.
Even with all the bothers I've got with my employer, they do get things going when they need to.
While I was doing my internship there, the owner apparently really decided that he wanted me onboard with the company: They were already experiencing problems related to the 2008 recession, but I was hired anyway. I then went on to make it through three rounds of layoffs, including one which took a coworker from my department. :\

If they want to do it, they'll get it done.

Start looking for another job, but if you like the company then you need to set a firm line.

End of the year is perfect time to put in a recap e-mail, especially after the new years.

Summary of e-mail/conversation
1. Happy New years (start positive)
2. Enjoying the work, the company it's objectives, and the opportunity to provide value to the objectives
3. Listing out a few of the circumstances where the company has benefited from your presence (be nice, don't go overboard)
4. Look for feedback, ex: In our past conversation's you've said that hiring me is on your radar. I'm looking forward to making 2014 a great year for me, and would appreciate knowing where I fit into this organizations plans for success. I'd also appreciate any feedback you may have, if there are areas of my performance that concern you. It would be valuable to help in my personal growth as well as becoming a more valuable team member.
5. Thank them for the opportunity and the experience that you've gained (drive this one home)
6. Let them know that, once again, your looking to make 2014 a great year, and your excited about taking on new responsibilities, upping your game, and looking for new opportunities (this should ring the bell in their head that you're gonna be lookin for a new gig.

If you get anything other than a civil, well-meaning response, cut them off. Don't give them the opportunity to be negative towards you. Just thank them for letting you know where you sit on their radar, and let them know a civil timeline as you look for your next opportunity. I'd say give them a month, let them know that you would hate to leave the team hanging so you'll help them as long as you can.

If the CEO is a jerk, then good for you, now you know that it's useless to stick around in his cesspool.

To many times, I haven't asked for what I deserved, and stuck around with ill-intentioned management. The only thing we can't get any more of is time, and time wasted on useless human beings is a bad habit.

Bought stores and set up new warehouses? Assume those needed new employees, or hired existing employees from the takeover. Probably more paperwork than it would take to hire you. Seems they had the time to do that.

I would start looking elsewhere asap. To at least determine what other options you may have if they continue dragging their feet, or don't meet your requirements when they actually do decide to hire you permanently. Hope you're getting a pretty decent wage with no benefits and no overtime.

Start job hunting. Get an offer in hand. Go into the boss's office and lay your cards on the table (he may refer you to the CEO, but let him do that). Tell them you are giving your 2 weeks' notice effective immediately unless they have a better counteroffer. You can bet your ass the CEO will make it a priority. In this scenario, either way, you win. Either you get a new job with benefits, or you get to stay where you are and have benefits.

Don't say or hint at anything about job hunting before you have an offer in hand, unless you want to be unemployed.

I would definitely start looking for a new job. Once you have an offer, take it to the CEO and see if they really value you or not.

This is a negotiation and you have no leverage. Interview at a few other organizations; even if a formal offer is not imminent, if the feedback is positive, your entire demeanour at work will change and they'll be much more receptive to treating you as an equal in the labour/compensation trade occurring here.

Time to start looking for a new job...unless you don't mind having "DOOR MAT" stamped on your forehead.

They obviously don't value your work or they would have fixed the situation.

(don't forget to leave a copy of your resume in the copier most used by management)

Its up to the employer as far as OT goes.

As far as what kind of temp does that...well that is my question too. Its not like I had anyone else with me. Just me traveling to stores setting things up. Even got a private ride on the company plane to setup the warehouse. Just me flying out to BFE...

No company, just me.

Its a weird thing with the new stores. A company went out of business so we took over thier stores for a short period of time until we can get them sold. We don't own or run stores. We didn't hire anyone to work in them. I assume old employees stayed on or the new owners who will take over hired them. Its a really complicated deal that happened very fast. The warehouse was just a new location for an existing warehouse. No one hired there either.

My wage is ok but I think I deserve more with the workload I have been dealing with.

No good deed goes unpunished.

But seriously ... I usually just keep my head down and plow on through and eventually it is rewarded. I usually just brew on it. But I know a lot of people expedite by raising attention to the issue - and it works.

I thought because I didn't work for them the OT laws don't apply?

they apply to whatever company issues and signs your paycheck..

if you are working for and paid via a temp agency, then they are the ones who need to be paying the overtime rate when you work overtime.. you can damn well bet that they are charging the client company for the OT.
