I so badly want to buy this game but wonder how it will perform on my new rig, what do you guys think?

How do I enter codes?

Well I tried a few of them since I posted this, and most of them work. You type them in at any point in the game. I'm not sure if they will work in the middle of a mission though. It'll say "cheat activated" if you type them in correctly.

Wow this game is shockingly violent. Even I'm a little disturbed playing this. Anyway, all the little details in this game are simply amazing. You can see the guy turn the steering wheel, you can get your mojo on with the hookers, the radio is fun to listen to (very funny talk shows too). But yeah, the violence is a bit much.

just type the codes in during gameplay.


On another note, does anyone know what the less obvious cheat codes do? gunsgunsguns gives you all weapons obviously, but what about the obscure ones?

You should be able to run at 1024x768x32 with no problems...

My system is even more outdated than you, I have a AMD T-Bird 700Mhz, GF2 GTS 32mb, 512 SDRAM and Win2k SP2...

I am running the game at 1024x768x32 without problems... your system should handle it with no problems...

I just applied the patch listed in the beginning post of the FAQ that applies to WinXP/Nvidia owners. Now I can run smoothy in 1024X768X32 with no lag! Woohoo!

I have a pretty good system...

512MB PC2100
ATi Radeon 8500

I disabled trails, frame synch, the limiter, as well as Dynamic Acoustic Modeling.

Even playing on the lowest resolution at 16bit I get slow down.

Hehehe. This really is more a brag, but I figured out how to make $5,000 on a jump and get my car up on the monorail.

If you steal the banshee from the car dealer you drive to the monorail system that's right by where your home base is. If you drive along it, you'll see a huge concrete ramp. Head south to be start your run. You'll reach a big steel thing that is above an underpass. If you gun it north from that steel thing all the way to the concrete ramp, you'll hit the ramp, go airborn and eventuall land on the monorail. You'll nab $5,000 for it.

Yea LOL, there are many jump spots around the city etc... and when you jump them you get an increaseing amount of money. Ill try to find a list for the faq

i'm so pissed that this game does not work with my comp and i have more than the recommended hardware...1.33 ghz, 256 megs of ram, 32 meg ati aiw ddr video card, all the update drivers, directx 8.1, win2k with sp2 and i still get lockups...my guess is that something is wrong with the sound cos i always get lockups when i'm driving with the stereo on...i've found driving around with the radio off works a little but it still locks up...

it's so disappointing cos i waited so long for the pc version and spent 50 of my hard earned dollars to purchase it...and i'm tired of people saying 'i can get it running so you should be able to as well, just fiddle around with it'...check out all the gta3 forums, a properly coded game would not require people 'fiddle' around and to go into the bios to screw around with apeture size and what not...this is ridiculous...

You can drive up onto the monorail as well. One of the staircases is wide enough for a car (the one on top of the hill). I like going up on the monorail over a road, and battling it out with the cops...then the FBI comes and you blow them away. Fun fun fun

Yeah I totally agree with you as well... I had to mess around with it before I can get it working properly, and PC games should not be like this...

All I can suggest to you is try out some of those no-CD cracks available on the internet... that seems to fix some problems....

Does anyone have that patch that fixes the general exception errors upon loading the game? I'm running the legal version but using the no-CD to help it run better. I'm getting some WHACK error on loading a save game.

Does anyone have descriptions/info for the settings in Car Stat Editor 3? There's a lot of options to change, but some of them I don't know how the number effects it (larger number=what?, etc...) and I've messed with it a little but it'd be nice to have descriptions.

I'd like to note that disabling trails may not be the best option. There is a definite increase in speed (however small), but for me, the trails greatly increased the visual qualities of the game. It looks like FSAA almost (v5 style) and the colors are more vibriant, the movements more lifelike. IMHO, it's worth it to leave the setting enabled unless the game is unplayable otherwise.
