Especially uf you use base image plus difference disk. Really cuts down on storage requirement

Vm on ssd is awesome

Yeah at some point I'd like to build an array of SSDs. Crazy expensive though and I don't like the idea that they wear out based on usage.

What would be awesome is ram drives, it would be like a SSD but use ram chips and battery backup. I wonder why that is not a thing.

Too expensive. And you still need to write the whole shabang to disk eventually.

Holy crap how much did that set you back? lol I use only Linux. I hate Windows licensing. Even if you pay for it they still want more money depending on what you do.

Nah it runs fine. Was on 2003 for the longest time tbh. Then decided to see if the application works in 2008 and it did. Doesn't anything after 2008 have the metro crap?

A VM on a ram disk could be fun to try.

Huh, how odd. In chrome on my phone, sig is hidden in portrait mode, but it is shown in landscape mode.

I doubt you'll notice the diff between it being on ssd vs ramdisk.

Server 2012 is not too bad on metro front.

My plex vm on ssd, which is not running on difference disk, boots up to login screen in less than 7 seconds.

I should buy more hard drives for my file server.

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/vg_isengard-lv_root
                       50G 6.3G 41G 14% /
tmpfs 3.9G 0 3.9G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sdv1 477M 162M 290M 36% /boot
/dev/mapper/vg_isengard-lv_home
                       53G 53M 50G 1% /home
/dev/md0 5.4T 3.5T 1.7T 68% /volumes/raid1
/dev/md1 6.3T 5.0T 1.1T 83% /volumes/raid2
/dev/md3 7.2T 1.3T 5.6T 19% /volumes/raid3

I don't like seeing usage numbers higher than 50%. Need to phase out raid2 at some point though. It's a raid 5 with 1TB drives. Could free up those slots for bigger drives. Still have like 3 slots left too in the server. 2 are physically near raid1, so I'd grow that one most likely. Not that physical location matters but I'm anal. Raid2 array is mostly just used for backups too so I could literally just remove it, and build a new array, then rerun all the backup jobs, while keeping the old drives just in case. I would probably just throw them in my removable backup pool.

I may experiment with ZFS at some point too. Using mdadm raid now. I still kind of want to set this server up as a SAN at some point too, on it's own network that plugs directly into the servers that need storage. iSCSI would be nice too if I can find a way to set it up properly on a multi host VM setup. There's something called Gluster but you pretty much need to be the head scientist at NASA to figure it out.

Sweet just remembered it's pay day tomorrow. Getting paid tonight. Christmas + OT on that cheque. I checked my pay stub as it always comes out ahead of time, and I'll be getting 2,800 or so. Should be able to put a big chunk on my credit line. It's also the start of the month so more of that money stays in the bank. May actually be able to pay the credit line off completely.
