err, you can buy a BB pod with all the parts sans hdd and build it.I'd love a backblaze, but damn they arn't cheap lol. Really what I'd love to see is an add-on card that has like 6+ SAS ports or like 24 sata ports without it breaking the bank. When I built my storage server I had to use a bunch of separate cards with 2 SAS ports and it took up all the PCI slots. (1 SAS converts to 4 sata with a breakout cable)
Might actually look at building out a custom backplane one of these days as I really like the backblaze design where the drives go from the top, more space efficient. Might even be able to buy Sata to pcie chips on digikey and the entire board could just connect to a PCIe slot via a riser cable. Could be a fun project. Actually even doing something that uses USB would be cool a sit would work with a Raspberry pi. The new one has a dedicated USB 3.0 port so it would be somewhat viable.

I doubt a RPI4 can push the iops you want.
... chuck those drives and buy a 12TB my bookThey are still like several grand without the HDDs last time I checked. I'd only use USB for archive stuff or where speed does not matter. Basically I have a bunch of small drives, like 250GB and 400GB that could use a home. I have the SAN enclosures that house them, but they are super proprietary and you can't put your own drives in it, but the drives themselves are still standard desktop drives.(Maxtors oddly)
