What were you building?
I was just dreaming of a 5950X. That is all.

It's a good lust xdI was just dreaming of a 5950X. That is all.

May as well go fiber. Used enterprise FC gear is cheap. Then there's the upgrade my home network to 10G just to do it. Hopefully, my next mobos will have Intel 10G build in.
I could also do the KISS approach and just build a single Threadripper system and have my existing VM server part of the cluster once I migrate everything over. I don't know if it's wise to mix AMD and Intel in a VM cluster though. The systems ideally need to be of similar vintage to work right or you get weird issues when trying to live migrate VMs.
eh? that makes zero sense. Whole point to vm is virtualisation.
A croissant offers pretty good protection.
You want an Epyc 7402P
Err no, the dual 7742 is horribly expensive. By the time you need power of two 64 cores, you can get off lease ones.I want the 7402 non-P. I want to be able to add another in the future.

7702P is single, it can never be paired xd. That is why it is cheaper. In fact two 7702P box is probably bfaster than one dual 7742.The 7702, not 7742. I was agreeing with you on the 7702. Just want the one you can pair up in the future when they're cheap.
I guess 24 core is fine too. Just remember you lose pcie lanes when you have dual cpu.
