Or you can drive a sedan and rent their cubevan for 30 bux for the one day in the year you need to move long things.

Or have friends that have trucks. Here in Texas they all have to have trucks and SUVs. Not sure who owns a sedan these days. I mean, I have a Camry. My buddy on the Atlantic coast in North Carolina is a car guy. I'll bet my Portland friends have at least a couple of cars. But yeah, I have four friends locally that I can call on for a truck.

I hate have to bother people or have to arrange times or wait etc. When I have my own I can just go whenever without having to involve anyone. They did not rent cargo vans here for the longest time, they literally started very recently though. If they did that before I probably would not have bothered getting a truck and would have gotten a small SUV or sedan instead. The ground clearance is still nice to have though especially since I find myself going into unknown bush roads when looking at properties.

Once I find one and assuming the road is decent or that I can just maintain it myself then I can see myself go back to a car. I'd probably get a trailer for it and use that to haul stuff instead. Given how much money I paid for the truck the plan is to keep it as long as possible though and try to get my money's worth.

Trucks are more expensive to maintain and operate. I think I borrowed one of my employer's vans when I bought a treadmill. It is more convenient, but a lot of cost. Got a buddy who has a F-250. Finally, got a jeep (a real jeep, not a fiat). Got tired of climbing into that thing and the horrendous gas mileage and cost to maintain it. Another buddy, with an F-150 like yours, would rather ride around in his wife's Kia. Of course, my buddy with the 2010 Tacoma is still driving the thing he bought new. Has done all the maintenance.

I do eventually want to go back to a car and just get a trailer for it. Probably keep the truck and do an EV swap. I'm far from a point where I can do anything like that though but ideally I want to make it last at least until such a point.

In hindsight I should have gotten a car and a trailer and it would be paid off by now. A small SUV would have worked too as I would still get a bit more ground clearance than a car so it would solve that issue. When I do buy a property I'll be hauling building material way more often so the truck will still be really handy for that but so would a car and trailer. Just need to be a bit more aware of how much weight I'm hauling if I do decide to use a car.

I'm hoping we start seeing some affordable EVs show up on the market though. I could not justify buying new but at least if they start making it on the market I know I'll be able to buy them used in like 5-10 years from now. There's hardly no EVs here. I did see a Tesla here once but not sure if it was someone from town.

Looks like another drug OD death tonight in my city, with a potential unrelated second one. It's a huge issue, and cops are not really doing anything. People were protesting the other day, and they even broke up the protest.

I honestly considered a mini van lol. It's not the most manly of vehicles but it could be so handy. I'd say as far as all the stuff I've hauled, about half of it is stuff that I don't really want to get wet so a van would be perfect for that. Like any time I buy drywall I end up having to buy at least 1 sheet of plywood so I can cover the snow and lay the drywall on top, and if it's raining, forget it, I need to wait another day.
