My coworker brought over her 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan this morning. Her car was having some misfire issues. I took out the plugs, showed them to her and told her what I was looking for. Got to use my new spark plug sockets. I used the 5/8" deep socket. It was long, but I still needed to use an extension. I think it was a 3" extension. I used one of my Craftsman locking extensions. The sockets held to the locking extension. My old Craftsman spark plug socket would not hold to any extension, locking or not. These worked great! Put new iridium Denso plugs. Looked like the outer cylinders had oil on the plugs. 2nd cylinder was normal. 3rd cylinder was running a little hot.
My coworker had bought new ignition coils from the parts store, as well. I told her to return them. If she's going to need new coils, she should get OEM ones. I ran a scan. She's had misfires in Cylinders 1 & 2. Took some screen caps of the scan and sent them to her so she can share with her mechanic. I cleared her codes and told her to see if the plug change cleared the issue. If not and the code(s) come back, I showed her how to change the coils if she wants to do it herself.
