ATOT PLEASE HELP 1880$ ticket might lose my license.

A few weeks ago I was pulled over because I was driving a 5 person car with 6 people in it. The 5 passengers were children between 12 and 15. None of the passengers in the back seat were able to buckle up since it was 4 in a space for 3. Today I get 4 tickets in the mail for 470 dollars each, and a notice saying I must appear before a judge. A total of $1880 due.

What can I do to get the judge to reduce the fine and points. Also looking at the DMV site, it seems the judge might be able to suspend my license for 1 year.

That was a dick cop. I can't count the number of times I have ridden with [(#seats)+1] people in the car, truck, SUV, etc.

Most recently, I rode in a Smart fortwo with three people! It is FOR TWO, but I gave it THREE.

It's pretty clear cut that you were in the wrong, so if they want to stick to the letter of the law there's not much you can do. Your best hope is to go in front of the judge and be apologetic. If they want to nail you to the wall for it they can. You've got a chance that the judge will decide to reduce it, but it's entirely up to them.

we grew up in a time without air bags, anti lock brakes, and seat belts and we turned out just fine.

OP are you in Canada? they are strict about things like this.

After some more googling looks like I can get 1 or all waived if I agree to take a vehicle child safety course through the CHP. Hope the judge allows for it.

You don't seem to get it. What if someone else was driving drunk? The safety features of a car are there not just if you cause an accident.

FWIW, the actual seat belt fine in California is $100 for first offense...but they tack on other penalties and fees that really drive the price up.
