I still cringe when I hear people say this.

They dropped the price of the phone by $200.

They increased the price of the contract by $240.

Not to mention they removed text messaging from the contract. The original iPhone contracts included 200 text messages per month; they're now charging $5 per month for it, adding another $120 to the price of the iPhone2 contract if you want to text message.

I would absolutely pay $40 more. But Apple is obviously pulling the wool over consumers eyes with their slogan: "Twice as fast. Half the price."

Maybe that's just Apple's way of keeping their squeeky clean image intact while the big bad AT&T charges $160 more for the same phone plan.

The other thing that really annoys me is that over 90% of the country still doesn't have 3G coverage from AT&T, so that new iPhone isn't going to be any faster than the old one for most people living outside of a major city.

It's amazing how many people aren't bothering to look at the damn coverage map and notice that.

It's simply an update to the phone that apple released last year. If you watched tv at all last summer, you would've been hard pressed to avoid the hype - this phone will create peace on earth, free up extra hours of your day, ...

waiting this time will suck, with the mandatory in store activation you'd have to assume somewhere around 10 minutes per person buying it. The AT&T store by me has maybe 5 people working tops, at full speed if the line has 500 people come tomorrow the wait will be shitty for people, especially the ones at the end. And to think some have been waiting for a day + and still are 50 or so people back in line.

I want an iPhone, but I can wait even if they sell out for a few months straight or are hard to find I'll be alright.

It's only half the price if you are a new customer or eligilble for an upgrade. Existing customers who arent due for an upgrade still pay the full price of $399.

I just walked past the line here in st pete, as i was going up for a coffee. It was like walking by a cult gathering, I fully expected to be assailed and offered to buy their book. That being said the iPhone is pretty cool. It will be a consideration when my present contract is up. I still love the LG OS though.

Unfortunately the target market already has mostly free hours all day every day

I like the iPhone as far as looks, how it feels...but having it be touchscreen only and no stylus is lame.

Yeah, waiting for a product that is going to be plentiful down the road is stupid.

The only things I've waited in line for were the crazy cheap deals at Best Buy at Thanksgiving, and the Wii (which is STILL hard to find). The iPhone? There will be a ton in stock the next week when the hype dies down.

While I'll agree it lacking A2DP is crazy, not even A2DP does wireless music right. The best wireless A2DP headset still SUCKS ASS. Music over Bluetooth is a joke, and I don't think A2DP will ever be anything good, all it has going for it is the wireless thing. The sound quality is horrible.

Because people couldn't get those for at least a few months after they were released. The Wii STILL isn't easy to come by unless you're busting your ass looking for one. The iPhone will be back in stock within a few days, likely. They won't be a rarity by next month.

Had that thought yesterday - wondered how they would handle the demand spike.

Well at least there will be a chosen few who can show off their new iphone at parties this weekend. I guess it doesn't matter if it works or not...
