Habaneros actually have excellent flavor, but most hot sauce companies try to overwhelm the palate with heat and you end up being able to taste nothing but pain. Secret Aardvark does a great job capturing the flavor of habanero, along with complimentary flavors, while keeping the heat at a level that is still approachable for most people. I'd put it as slightly hotter than Tabasco or Tapatio, with a bit less of a vinegary taste. The average American who shies away from any heat whatsoever won't like it, but the average American also likes McDonalds, so their opinion on food is easily dismissed. If you can eat hot sauce in general, this won't be too spicy for you.

I'll have to try this.. Trader Joe's has a very good habanero hot sauce which seems to be in the same style.

I worked with a guy years ago who told wonderful stories of these cookies. Brought them in one day and I was highly disappointed. Just wasn't good IMO.

probably had an older batch. there is a huge difference between when they are fresh and when they have been on the shelf for a week or so.

it's basically just fudge on a cookie. so good though.

Andrew Zimmern had a new episode of Bizarre Foods yesterday and was in Saigon. Most of the stuff I knew about but the bánh tráng nướng was something i've never heard of and must be fairly new to the food scene over there.

Basically a rice paper filled with random fillings and quail egg, grilled, and folded over, making a sorta vietnamese taco

i didn't even know rice paper did that when you grilled it; always did the soak-in-water stuff like for the rolls.

my contribution would be:

a few places i can recommend this salty spicy flavor bomb of a soup noodle in Southern Cali. some shops are in El Monte, CA, and most are in Westminster, CA (the little Saigon).

That hot sauce looks good AtomicPlayboy. If it's on Amazon I think I'm gonna order some. Thanks!

Being a (former) Yooper, I gotta suggest pasties. Gram's Pasties doesn't have an online store, yet, but you can call them and order and have the package(s) shipped anywhere in the country.

There's also Dobber's Pasties. They have an online store. Both of these places are in my hometown and I've eaten at both of the places; their pasties are awesome.

in Rowland Heights, CA

Ox tongue steak. just try it. If that's too exotic they have regular type of the meat too.
try to go there, i don't think the restaurant will last long though.... no one seem to share my passion for this small mom/pop place (no hate against its corporate rival Curry House, but i like the little guy more)

What the hell people, can you read?

"Let's start a list of local things you can order from anywhere"

Giving a bunch of stuff you can only get at a certain restaurant is not very helpful.

Secret Aardvark habanero hot sauce is made locally in Portland, Oregon. It's actually available via Amazon now, so I imagine you can get it anywhere, but it's fairly ubiquitous in PDX and for good reason; it's the best hot sauce I've ever had. It's got good heat, but beyond that, it's loaded with flavor. I'm actually enjoying some with breakfast while I write this. Damn good stuff.

Big thumbs up for the Aardvark. My sister brought some back for me when she last visited. I like Ghost pepper items, so while it was not hot to me, it had an excellent flavor. I need to have her send me some more.

For my 'local' contribution I would say visit the Nueske's website. https://www.nueskes.com/shop-by-department/smoked-sausage.aspx?F_All=Y

Applewood smoked items. I linked the sausage products, but they also have bacon, hams, etc. I always stop by when I visit my brother and get quite a few items.
