AT's Dedicated BF3 Server and Origin List

Guys, can I get some pointers on Battlefield 3? I am no noob to multiplayer FPS's. In fact I loved and played 1942 desert combat for years, but I am so lost in BF 3 it isn't even funny. I can't even tell who is on my team or not. Do all teammates always have a blue spot above them? I keep approaching enemies because I think they're on my own team. None of this basic stuff is in the manual and the single player campaign does absolutely nothing to prepare for this. I also can't tell where I'm going to spawn.

It is seriously pretty ridiculous at how unfriendly this game is to new players. Maybe it's because I never played BF 2 or any of the call of duty's and things have just changed in the past 7 or 8 years but everything feels so different and foreign to me I don't even know where to begin.

Since you've played a BF game before, you should already know what to do. All you need to learn is how to identify enemies which will take some time. All enemies have orange over them and teammates have blue.

unless there's a teammate that's standing off in the distance behind your enemy lol

In mobile engagements it's sometimes better to play the minimap. Keep an eye on that thing! When somebody fires an unsuppressed weapon he pops up on there for a bit.

Don't worry... it happens sometimes to us veterens too - when in doubt shoot first then ask questions or figure out later... when he falls to the floor and you get points then he is the enemy... if he is still standing then he is your teamate - just make sure you are on a server with Friendly Fire is off first... after awhile you'll get the hang of it...

Hahaha, ran into ExplosiveJizz on a server, was lots of fun, woulda been much better if we were on the same team, we had some hard battles.

Yah... We had some fun games and he does have his funny moments sometimes...

one time he killed me with a mortor using the RU spawn mortor glitch on Metro when I was spawn killing the RU team and he replied - "Sorry Bro, just trying to get points for my Support class or build points for my mortor weapon - or something along that line (can't remember)..." funny that he apologized to me when I was spawning killing his team...

Another time we were in the same squad as RU TEAM on Metro and at the very start of the MAP both of us hard rushed Flag B totally ignoring Flag A like you are supposed to - he got killed at Flag B but I somehow made it down the esculaters all the way to the bottom subway lockers... I was busy reloading waiting for my health to recover, and waiting for him to spawn on me to continue to the opposing team's Flag C - at the same time I'm praying that the opposing team don't discover I'm hiding deep behind their lines...... then ExplosiveJizz spawned on me looked around like he was confused (he didn't see me because he spawnedd in front of me and I was behind him with my back against the wall) and he wandered out the LOCKERS towards the enemy before I can fully recover and reload! I chased after him and he got killed by the USA team before I can respond or help him and ended up getting killed too (32 vs 2 of course!) - then he replied "Sorry dude, I thought the server autobalanced and put me on the USA team!" - I started cracking up after that (I was wondering why he was not shooting back at them!) - I guess he did not realize that I got that deep behind enemy lines when we both rushed hard at the very start of the map... I dunno - but you just had to see that moment unfold right in front of your eyes:biggrin:
it was hilarious!

The last time I was on the same sever with him he was exploiting the USA Mortor Glitch on METRO - Mortoring from the bottom of the esculaters to Flag A killing a bunch of RU Soliders
It was funny because a bunch of RU players were calling him a hacker and begging the ADMIN to ban him... Both me and the ADMIN were defending him and the bantar between the ADMIN and RU players were funny... the comments they were making at ExplosvieJizz were explicit - but ExplosvieJizz kept his cool - responded with a "he he he" and just continued to mortor away - then a bunch of RU players rage quit when the ADMIN refused to kick/ban him- it was hilarious

I don't think you're ready for all 23 of us. I mean, we're already winning the platoon emblem battle handily...

Does anyone have trouble with the Javelin? By that, I mean that mine won't fire or lock AT ALL, EVER. I can be 10 feet away from an enemy tank, bring it up, and nothing. no beeping/locking noise, no target square, nada.

Do I have to switch modes somehow?

i can try it out tonight but last time i used it, i had no issues, thers is no MODE that I know of

My BF3 must be broken somehow then. I can use the IGLA ground to air missile with no trouble, and from the videos I've seen that's how the Javelin is supposed to work. I can bring up the targeting screen thing, but absolutely nothing happens. I've probably spawned with it a couple dozens times hoping that it would fix itself.

You know, the first time I tried to use it I couldnt get a lock on either, so I went back to the RPG. It worked in coop, so I dont know what the deal was.

You have to zoom in with the right mouse button and wait for it to lock on. In that sense it's similar to the IGLA. If you're zooming and not seeing the target square, I guess it's not working. That sounds pretty odd though.

I will say I have a love/hate relationship with the javelin. It's so slow that it's only good for long-range strikes. But it reloads so slowly and has so little stopping power that a target is often out of range before I can hit it with sufficient rockets to knock it out. Either that or I run out of rockets and promptly get killed...

The only time I've had a satisfying kill with the javelin is when I've locked onto speeding jeeps and sent a javelin criss-crossing around the battlefield as it chases the jeep. That's fun! And yet, the darn javelin can only disable a full-health jeep, or so it seems. Lame!

Yeah that's exactly it, I right click just like using the IGLA, see the target screen with all the little icons around, point at enemy vehicle ... and nothing. With the IGLA, I can easily target planes, the little rectangle or whatever highlights them, I get the beeping tones, and fire when it locks.

It's frustrating because I really want to try it out.

Yup I rarely use it as well but have taken out many tanks with it. Only use it when there's a tank camping far out in the open somewhere. I know someone can shoot a laser target on a chopper or jet and you can lock on with the Javelin but I've never experienced that before.

It's tough to keep a server active. Even the reddit servers aren't constantly full 24/7 like they used to be. Maybe to keep it going you should have a very very limited rotation. Like a 24/7 map or the 2 really popular maps with air vehicles. Then whenever you or another admin is on you can go with a deeper rotation.

heh, and I only do Conquest and dont know the Rush strategies, but that didnt stop us from kicking butt last night. Although why we couldnt pass SL duties to you on Rush is beyond me. Hungman and myself must have left the squad and rejoined like 10 times each trying to pass it to you.
