my conclusions: the x1900xt is THE fastest single GPU [period] . . . i predict the 512 GTX supply will get much better and it will be discounted as people turn to ATi for at least the next month [where they are obviously making a 'killing' until g71]

and you NEED the fastest CPU to run it - the barest minimum being a 3.6 P4 or A64 3500+. . . and unless you are playing at the highest resolutions with lots of AA/AF, it is a bit of a waste . . . ATi is clearly looking to future games.

Now bring on the g71

It makes sense if you look at a possible lineup using the rumored specs of the G71.

7900 GTX = 32 pipelines
7900GT = 24 pipelines.

7900GT will simply replace the 7800512.

Well the GTX 512 is a piece of trash if you want ot compare it to this card.

This is what I predicted a couple of weeks back.It makes perfect sense.It allows you 2 bad quads,and being on 90nm they should be able to clock it at 600-650,making it faster than the 7800512 and cheaper.

But this thread is about the awesome looking 1900's.Hope they release proper drivers for it right away.Initial results look good,as well as an awesome launch.Way to go ATI!

16 pipelines, 48 pixel shader pipelines.

the 512-GTX is an excellent card . . . it held the top spot for quite awhile now . . .it's "faults" was with extreme pricing and its unavailability. . . . it can run anything at "normal" resolutions with plenty of AA/AF.

i DO expect the G71's 7900GTX-512 to dominate the x1900xtx . . . will the ATi card then become "trash"?

i KNOW the GTX will be replaced . . . but what is nVidia gonna do in the next few weeks while it readies their new series . . . i EXPECT to see at least some 512 GTX availiility [and possible discounting . . .it just ain't a $650 card anymore]

i dont understand the crossfire results, the xtx outscored the xt in crossfire mode by a healthy margin in certain games. With just 25 mhz more on the core and memory? Strangeness.


Wish i wasn't so cheap and had the balls to get a crossfire setup. already have the asus mvp...

Did anyone notice something strange in the BF2 image quality section of the review? In all the nvidia shots, there is a shadow that crosses the arm and weapon of the player, however that same shadow doesn't show in any of the ati image quality shots.

Not really... this card is faster in most benchmarks, but its not that much faster.
The performance advantage benchmark is an exaggeration.. look again, read the real bench, and you will see its not that much faster than 7800 512.

This is a better card though.

umm... thats odd.. did they turn off shadow in the test? ..
hope its not a bug/"shortcut" in the archetecture...

My main complaint of this review is that they focus was on super high resolutions that most people don't play at. I think 1600x1200 should be the main comparison resolution.
