I have just received a letter from the
Automobile Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc
They are informing me that in 1998 Honda made an agreement with the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resource Board (CARB) for a reason that there are some Accords out there with faulty On-Board Diagnostic system (OBD) that causes it to not comply with the Federal Clean Air Act and California Regulations. Something to do with my car's emission controls system to make it short.
So as part of this agreement Honda is providing owners of 1995, 1996, 1997 vehicles with several benefits :
1- The Federal and California Emissions Warratnies have been extended t 14 years form the date the car was sold for the first time, or untill it reaches 150,000 miles which ever comes first.
2- When Vehicles have between 50k & 75K miles a Honda Dealer will inspect the vehicles emission system for free, And will do any warranty repairs or replacements needed on the emission control system, including parts and labor.
The third one applies to my Accord
3 - When the vehicle has between 75K & 150K miles on it the Honda Dealer will not only service the emission's control system, but also the dealer will do the following too :
a- Replace the car's spark plugs.
b- ignition wires.
c- Distributor cap.
d- rotors.
e- Give you a free oil & oil filter change, in addition to any necissary repairs needed (I am not sure what's exactly covered but if it's deemed to be under the agreement then they will fix it free of charge)
Also it says in the letter that if you have ever made repairs or changed parts that are related to this issue and are eligible for the warranty denoted in this letter, then submit copies of reciepts + any documentation for parts and labor to :

My friend has a 1995 Honda Accord Ex coupe and he didn't recieve the letter (but I know that his car has a different on-board computer than mine so that might be the case), my Accord if you are wondering is a
1996 Accord Coupe LX 5-speed manual
So it might not be something that applies to all Accords between 1995-1997 but for the free repairs it's worthwhile checking if it applies to your accord and you just weren't notified for some reason.
In case it applies then enjoy the free maintenance I guess, I am happy that I was just 2 days away from changing my oil and filter and now they will do it for me for free, in addition to spark plugs, rotors and the rest of the replacements I listed above.
And this sounds kind of weird but if anyone can verify it for me if they received the same latter then I will appreciate it, because I couldn't find anyone else that had received it among the others I know with a similar model like mine, but to verify it I have called a Honda Dealer close to my place and made an appointment for Saturday at noon so I will know for sure then how good they follow through their deal
