It's not. However, Thorny probably didn't mean it that way, just did word it correctly.

I'm a little over 6'8" barefoot. The fact is, there's nothing you could have done better. It's good that you reprimanded your staff, however it's quite sad they act like kids.

Anyways, the guy has heard it his whole life. I certainly do. No matter where I go, everybody says something. I can get pissed about or just understand I'm tall and make light about it. When people ask about my height I sometimes say I'm 4'3". And if they ask about basketball, I ask if they play miniature golf. Though what your staff did is very unprofessional and quite offensive, it sounds like he just has a bad attitude about it. Or maybe he just tired of it. Either way, there's nothing more you can do.

I'm over six feet tall, and I get that kind of crap all the time. It's just people showing how shallow/childish/ill-mannered they are. Nothing new under the sun.

OP, I don't understand what your problem with this is. You did all you could, but you just can't fix everything. Or everyone. Frustrating, I know, but it's time to move on.

I'm 6'5", and I'm proportioned well (broad shoulder, etc), and I get almost no comments on my height. I don't know what you guys are talking about.

EDIT: Although I did have to get a box of tissues off the top shelf for a shorter woman at the grocery store last time I went.

I'm short at 6'5", but I'd say I probably average 3 or 4 comments a week about my height. "Do you play basketball" or "What did you have for breakfast" are the two common lines.

That said, I can't see why someone would get upset about it, it just kind of cracks me up how we seem to love height in this country.

I guess it's how women with very large boobs hate them, but everyone gawks and loves them. Yay, I'm tall, now my knees can hurt, I can not fit on a plane, train, bus, any sports car, amusement park rides...

OP, the guy is a grown man. If he's in his 50's and is still offended by retards, there's not alot you can do about it. I'm not condoning anyone's behavior, but this is just another example of how people need to grow a thicker skin, and forget about getting offended every time they turn around. For the record I'm nowhere near as tall as this guy is, but I'm 6'5", and getting asked how tall I am doesn't bother me in the slightest way.

As far as I see it the basketball comment is a compliment. It's saying you'd be suited to basketball more than shorter men because your natural stature gives you an advantage. Hooray for you! If you asked a really short person if they played basketball then I think they'd be offended.

I'm 6'4" and very rarely get comments from people about my height - almost never from people I don't know. I also weigh 220 so not a beanpole or anything.

Im 6 ft 4 in, so not that tall. I love it. I don't care how many times people ask how the weather is, etc. Much better than being a short guy.

Anyway, the guy is 50s, he's used to it and he's an adult. He will be discriminated anywhere he goes. I am sure he appreciated your phone call, good work mate.

I'm surpised how many over 6' people are on this board who don't think they're tall. Isn't average like 5'11" or 6' ?

I've always found it funny how being tall can be seen as "better" (I don't care if people comment on my height) while being short is "lesser"
