New build posted. Since the current i5 4670K promo code can't be stacked with a combo deal, you're better off getting the components separately. General deal chasing all around brings the price to $925 AR AP. At that price I highly recommend picking up the bigger SSD.

That board isn't crossfire compatible. Not a big issue, but I would spend $10-$15 more of you want to upgrade. Definitely buy the bigger SSD.

New build posted. Nice deal on a mobo + CPU combo, and a really nice deal on the R9 280X this week. The competition in the lower GPU brackets is also getting ridiculous, the R9 280 is under $200. Again, I'd recommend getting the 240GB SSD if you want to be closer to $1000.

I would buy DDR3-1866 RAM by G.SKill for $82.

Even after promo, it's not worth the cost increase.

Edit: I never heard of the brand "His."

HIS has been around for a long time. I remember getting my 9800 PRO from them.

mfenn, there is a very nice PSU deal at newegg for the same cost after rebate and promo:

Rosewill Capstone 750W, modular, Gold Rated @ 50C, 7 year warranty for $70 shipped, AP, AR

Nice find!

New build posted. There's some pretty aggressive memorial day weekend sales, so I'd recommend picking up 2 of the 3 upgrades (SSD, RAM, or GPU).

Shame the Kindle Fire environment is a crappy one and to many people, not worth the $100+ it costs.

The link is to an R9 270X, and the correct price for the reference R9 290 4GB is $370 AR, with 8% off (valid for today) bringing it to $338 AR. Nonreference HIS, Gigabyte and Asus R9 290 are each available for $380 AR.

Intentionally switched to a non-reference cooler and meant to clean up all references to the reference cooling being loud, but apparently I missed one. Sorry about that, fixed.

AsRock Fatal1ty H97 Performance motherboard $100
Intel i5-4690 CPU $215
Kingston 2x4GB RAM KHX18C10K2/8 $85
Seasonic S12II 520 watt PSU $60
CoolerMaster HAF 912 case $60
Pioneer Blu-ray burner BDR-209DBK $65
Western Digital 1TB HD $59

Computer without the video card for $644. All this needs is a CoolerMaster GeminII M4 processor cooler, some Nexus 120mm fans and maybe a GTX 750 Ti (preferably with heatpipes).

EDIT: I like the corded version of the Creative T12 speakers.

ANOTHER EDIT: I forgot to mention, the RAM is set at 1600MHz and 1.5V. You could choose an MSI GAMING N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC video card for $160.

New build posted, taking advantage of the new new Crucial MX100 SSD. AMD GPU pricing continues to be ridiculous, I guess they have an oversupply after ramping up production for cryptocoin mania. A very nice deal on the H230 this week as well.
