I'm assembling a computer for the first time using the parts in this guide, so first thanks for this very useful resource. I just had a quick question about fans. Is it still a good idea to get a big fan for the whole case? If so, do you guys have any recommendations for one that would work with the NZXT case in the current guide? Thanks!

There isn't really a mounting point for a large case fan on the H230 without a significant mod to the case. There ARE additional 120mm fan mounting points (1 front, 1 bottom), and if you have a few extra bucks in your budget, you might consider populating them.

If it were me, I'd probably add a 120mm front intake, but probably wouldn't bother with the bottom slot.

Edit:
If you want one that matches, I think this is very close to the fan that comes pre-installed.

The 120mm Fractal Design Silent Series looks and performs similarly too.

New build posted, R9 280X pricing continues to drop like a rock. Other components have increased a bit, though there is still a good deal on the PSU. And the 200R makes a comeback after being outpriced by the NZXT for a while.

The 2TB drive is a good option if you need more storage. Most people don't and every little bit helps.

New build posted. The major change this week is that R9 280X prices have gotten so low that the build threatened to drop below $900. Since this is supposed to be a ~$1000 build, I dropped the R9 280X down to the alternate column and promoted the main build to the R9 290. Who knows if this week is an anomaly or the beginning of a trend, but for now the $1000 build includes AMD's second highest single-GPU part.

Yes, the 212 is a narrow cooler, so they will clear.

New build posted. Turns out that the R9 290 deal was one week only (for now). Still a solid build overall with a Gold PSU, R9 280X, and the i5 4690K. The Crucial MX100 256GB is out of stock at Newegg, but you can grab one for $115 at Amazon.

Building a gaming rig with a budget of $800 max with OS and wired kb/mouse for my son's friend. Looking at the build at the front page, we're doing away with the SSD for now and step down to the 270 GPU. Won't really OC it, so maybe I can step down on the CPU? Having trouble getting all the promo codes for newegg...anywhere its posted?
