Just a question to put out there for reference as well... what stepping are your CPUs? It seems that Intel released the D0 stepping for socket 478 which is supposed to run cooler. Unfortunately mine's C0 stepping, so my computer's sounding like a jet engine to keep the temps where they are right now. Any folks up there to comment whether D0 runs significantly cooler or not?

Mine is a QP75ES Malay

How would I go about using a calc to do that?

Open Calculator (change it to scientific mode under the view menu)

Type 4 then the pink "Exp" button then 1500.

Hit the pink "sin" button.

It will start calculating and maybe a window will pop up that says "the requested operation may take a very long time to complete..."

Then I guess you keep hitting continue until it finishes (I just quit).

Let me know how long it takes.

What is calc REALLY doing when you try this? Seing as it doesn't really track all 10^1500 digits of 4E1500, it makes absolutely zero sense for this calc to take more than a microsecond.

44 Degree idle, thats not a lot at all. My CPU Idles at the exact same temp, and ive seen it at high 50's. Either the prescott is not as hot as everyone says, or my CPU is too hot. By the way im using the Zalman 7000a cu

What can I say thats the reading I get with my setup. I do think that while Prescott is hot the temps are blown way out of proportion. Judging from the polls most people average 40-50 idle and 50-60 max. Not great but not to bad either

I have a Gainward GS 6800GT which has its own fans/fan control, but even still it runs rather warm at times. So I have the two front fans on the Cases blowing cool air directly into the Video card intake.

Works like a charm!

New cooling for me. Want to see h0w far i can get with air stable before moving to more exotic cooling
Thermaltake XP-120

Idle 40
Load 55

3.2@4GHZ YEAH!!!!!!!! (285.8 FSB vdroop/vdimm modded, vcore1.456 ). This thing flys and just keeps on going, everything loads lightning fast.

Love this chip.

The Thermaltake XP-120 MONSTER rules added a good fan also Sunon 120mm!!!!, i literally drooped 5 celcius and at the same time increased the stable overclock to 4Ghz!!

Cheers,

System when i first got it with Stock cooling

Speed (Ghz):3.4ghz
Socket:lga 775
Idle Temp(C):60
Max Temp(C):80
Mobo Idle Temp(C):33
Mobo Max Temp(C):35
Cooling Solution:Stock Cooling
Case:Antec lanboy
No of Case Fans: 2 (front blowing in, back blowing out)
Mobo:Abit aa8 DuraMax
Monitoring Software:abit eq
Notes: abit supposedly reports higher temps

System now with custom cooling

Speed (Ghz):3.4ghz OC'd to 3.6ghz
Socket:lga 775
Idle Temp(C):48
Max Temp(C):62
Mobo Idle Temp(C):40
Mobo Max Temp(C):45
Cooling Solution: XP-90 and 45CFM 92mm fan
Case:Antec lanboy
No of Case Fans: 2 (front blowing in, back blowing out)
Mobo:Abit aa8 DuraMax
Monitoring Software:abit eq
Notes: mobo temperature went up significantly i think this is because the CPU cooling is blowing hot air from cpu onto the northbridge : ( also i think i need a better cpu fan but that was the best they had at a local store that has the right kind of docking for xp-90 and the one i ordered wouldn't fit : ( will maybe OC a little more later

How do you like the Praetorian?

I love that case -great cooling and was really easy to build with.
