The Find-a-Drug project has now processed more queries than the original 250 we envisaged. We have also targetted most of the recognised protein targets for the major project areas. Where we have been able to obtain experimental data to confirm biological activity, the predictions have exceeded our expectations. Smile Our experience suggests that it will be difficult to find collaborators who will be interested in the results of targetting proteins whose biological function is unknown or of little therapeutic interest.

We have concluded that there are insufficient worthwhile protein queries to continue the project into 2006 and have decided to close the project on 16 December 2005. Sad We will continue to make some new queries available over the coming weeks but will not accept results after the close of the project.

We are obviously very grateful for the contributions of members and will continue to work with our collaborators.

This is, in many ways, exceptional news.

It is disappointing that we have not found additional protein targets to process against.

It is very satisfying to know that we have ripped through a vast number of candidates and extracted the best of the best for additional live testing ....

I am happy to have participated. I am certain that I have given it my best ...

P.S. ... if FaD is indeed closing ... it would be great, if, as a team, we could find a new challenge and approach it with the same spirit as we approached FaD. Any comments?

Congrats to all my fellow TA FAD teammates..it was a pleasure to crunch with you all, we came together as a very great FAD team over the last year.

I share Mondo's thoughts on the project, sad to see it go but gratifying to know that we did our part to shred through some data and make it easier for the researchers.

Time to find another project to dedicate our considerable resources to.

Perhaps we can make a list of projects to consider.
Folding at home and Rosetta at home comes to mind but I'm sure there are others.

I was looking at Orbit@home or Seti@home or Climate Prediction (BOINC projects) but I am not sure how "friendly" boinc is in a networked environment.

My goal would be an acceptable project with a network "friendly" client ...

... comments?

One problem is you are going to loose the ability to run clients through the FaD server, or one client acting as the server for the others. I am not sure if there is an add-on to do this with BOINC. But I have not heard of one myself.

An alternative suggestion would be most helpful

I do have a lot of computing capacity ... that ... it seems ... will be idled ...

Constructive suggestions would be helpful ... installing a client on each computer is outside of bounds ... guess I will be relegated to insignificance in a few days ...

ah ... I will continue to do some project with a few machines unless I am able to find a network friendly project ....

Well Mondo, to say that you have a lot of computing power is an understatement.

By network friendly, I assume you mean server deployed....
I'll keep my eyes open.
Just powered down my droids in my home/office. (except my pc of course)

I'm sad that a project I only recently joined will be closing down, but hopefully the work that has been done will be put to good use in further medical research.

I really can't think of any other project that I'd like to run right now (can't do Folding@Home on my machines since it takes up too much RAM) so my 20 or so computers may very well become idle in December as well...

I would imagine that a copy of Seti Driver could be run by all machines on a network drive, if that's what you mean by a "network friendly project". But I've never tried it, and Seti Classic is supposed to end someday soon...

Wow this is very sad news. This would have been on of my main projects to do in 2006. I really would have liked to contribute more to this more than great project.

DOH!

heh... DOH?

I probably should spend time fixing the DPAD stats which have been wrong for ages... I suppose I could remove the LifeMapper completely... TSC and D2OL get almost no hits at all... 17-Or-Bust was a bust with fewer hits that the dead projects... FaD is by far the main draw to the stats site...

Damn!

I was trying so hard recently and managed to pass the 10 GFLOPS milestone, but what I was really looking for was one of those anti-cancer certificates. Well, I guess I'll never get one of those then. It's a shame FaD closes, it has been a really good project. Reminds me of the days when DF closed so suddenly, too.

Holy molee, a DC project that actually concludes! :Q

My life is over.

Well, it's been fun while it lasted and for me at least this development is somewhat liberating and exciting. Congrats to everyone involved and hope to see you in some other project!

Lifemapper was one project that finished also.

Sorry, was meaning to speak more from my own perspective i.e. one who's not been around enough to have been part of any DC project that saw completion.

WOW! Just when I thought this project was bottomless. I was thinking it would last many, many years. Oh well, I guess! I'll be looking into a similar project, like Folding. I want to contribute to the cure of illnesses like cancer. This really caught me off-guard.

Yeah it would be nice to finish up in fifth place.
Hate to see it end. I don't much care for the BOINC base projects myself
Dpad is still running for those without enough ram for folding Althought I don't know how much is needed for that project.
What about WCG?

Some of the folks from UD were defecting to WCG. I think it is Protein folding as well.

I just loaded the F@H CLI on my main box to see how it does.....
