I'm at work and I have Pop Tarts. I crave the tasty toasted goodness to which I am accustomed at home, yet I have only a microwave and no toaster. I know from dismal experience that microwaving Pop Tarts straight up without doing anything special results in fail.

What are my options?

Might be able to do something with a halogen lamp, and some tin foil. They get pretty hot.

Make a wire grid out of paperclips, one grid on each side, and hook it up to your car battery :^D

Take an empty soda can to wrap around the pop tart, then microwave. Two pepsi cans might be needed.

I have an idea, entirely untested:

Find a sheet of glass. Heat glass in microwave (timing unknown). Open, test heat (drops of water should boil quickly), put pop-tart on glass, remove pop-tart, repeat for other side.

Make sure the room doesn't have a smoke alarm right over the microwave.

Rubycon's suggestion. Keep a propane torch in your drawer at work. You can also cook a nice steak for lunch.

Another thought: Do you have access to a large can, metal box, or something similar? Go outside (preferably), and find some rocks to prop the can/box on, so that the bottom is off the ground. Toss some wadded scrap papers underneath and ignite. Keep feeding more paper as necessary while your poptart grills on top. You can also cook a steak this way. Just tell the boss that you read that MIT had written an algorithm where they were able to scan in shredded paper and reassemble the original documents electronically. You were just making really sure that no one was going to find out what was on those documents that needed to be destroyed.

Hand sanitizer (Purell) is great for making a fire for heating things indoors. A small tin can/cup works. Just beware the flame is practically invisible in normal lighting! (So you think you put it out and did not and grab it - Yeooooow!)

How about buying the cheapest toaster Wal Mart has to offer and taking it to the office? If it's a matter of money, you can risk buying one off Craig's List or at a thrift store.


Or, toast it at home and re-microwave it at work to see if it's acceptable.

Haha the pop of the torch when shutting it down...

Also if you had the O2 shut completely off and just had the acetylene valve cracked you have these crazy little carbon wisps floating around.
