[/b]Not long ago we posted about a "Universal Installer" concept, it got some decent response. These were the Original Configuration ideas:

1) Graphical install

It is a GUI based Install, thats flexible in will allow for lots of different installations and parameters. Including unlimited CPU support, so if you have 8 it will install 8 automatically.

2) Option to install on network or single PC

You will have the option to install Locally on Win9X/ME/NT/2K/XP and remotly on WinNT/2K/XP

3) Abilty to schedule runtimes

A GUI interface to select 24/7 or customized "runtimes", even selection to run over weekends

4) Option to choose TeAm or personal proxies

Manually input your SETIQ settings or choose to use one of the other TeAm proxies

5) For the program to install as a service on Win9x/ME - WinNT/2K/XP

Yes, see #1

6) Option to install logging program (SETIdriver - SETILog)

It looks as if we will be adding a uniuque and new program just for the FlexInstaller as opposed to using other peoples programs

7) If its a network install, a program installed to control the clients.

GUI to STOP, START, INSTALL and UNINSTALL client services remotely, and even check the status of the service on the remote PC, this will be in the form of a "Tools" program for the LAN Install

So there you have it! Hopefully with more and continued support we will be able to add the Win9X/ME LAN option, Graphical features about the processes and completion times per Wu and many other great ideas that have been brought up and requested. When You ask? Tentitive release sometime this week! (01-21/26-02)

I want to be sure that everyone knows that there were some great people behind this effort and that bot2600 has done a great deal of the big time work. I would all hope that you extend to him and this effort a great deal of credit for the work and if you can to pitch in with more ideas and even scripts, VBscript, Jscript, Shell, whatever, it will only beinfit all here on this great TeAm.

One point. Anyone who would like to be listed in the default Team Q's let me know before sunday. So far I have Shux's,Orangekid's and TACube's. Russ, is it ok to include TACube's Q in there? I was pretty sure Orangekid wouldn't mind

How about a feature to allow us with company SetiQ to add our own queue.

I know i could use this program since i install seti multiple times a week
But i wouldnt want to have to manually write my info each time.
So an external file for ones own info would be very useful.

Then people can use it even if they dont want their internal setup revealed to the outside world

Otherwise sound good ...

Will have to check it out

Excellent work guys, the network install part should make a lot of peoples lives a lot easier !!!!

What might also be good would be a network remove section, to quickly remove S@H in case of problems...

cheers,

Col.

Shux, bot, and everyone else involved - Thank You! I hope everyone appreciates the time and effort you put into this.

You know something? This ability to install clients remotely, control the run hours, and stop/start them remotely might get my bud rleach2 back up to 3 digit production. Looks like I'll be doing some recruiting today...

I am really proud of this team of programmers. I remember telling Sukhoi one day, not long ago, that it is really a shame that SETI doesn't have a modern Install Program that all users can run by answering a few questions during the setup with some things, like recognizing the OS and adjusting the process accordingly, done automatically.

The work getting IndyJaws underway is what really spurred this project on. It is my understanding that bot2600 has been grinding away at the development of just such a program dang near 24/7 for quite some time now. ShuxClams has become one of the goto guys whenever a tough situation faces us. The work they, along with several other key players, are doing is going to set this TeAm on fire. They will surely be installed in the Seti Hall of Fame. If there is not such a thing, then it is about time we start one!

More hard work is ahead and there will be the usual debugging process but I am so excited by this project, I can hardly stand it.

Keep plugging men. If there is anything I can do to help promote or whatever, just let me know.

What a great idea, when this comes out I will get my production back up there. This will make my life so much easier when it comes to Seti. Good luck with the setup and thanks for all the hard work!!!

Does this mean I get credit for recruiting rleach2 twice? Nah, just kidding. Credit goes to Shux, bot, and the others involved.

SONI, The should be at this point, there are some customization possibilites, if you know how to work with the programming.

Thanks all!

Great job guys!

If you need a testing station for anything I can get an image of Win98SE put on my K5 90 MHz that you're free to blow up. Well, atleast until my P166 MMX comes early next week.

i noticed GUI, thats just the installer right, the actual crunching will be done via the CLI and I assume SETI Driver? Also, will the flex installer allow service installs on WIN ME to be much easier than using that 3 page printout i got from one of the help sites? My roommate sometimes uses my computer to play games and i have him restart my computer when he's finished just to clean out the memory. However, my windows networking login pops up every time it restarts and he often leaves the computer before it has booted to that point thus leaving my computer unintentionally idle for however long it takes me to discover this.

All installs are Service installs. It doesnt run as GUI, it is the installer that is a GUI.
