Its porbably generic but still $35 shipped with 400w power supply.

I needed a 400 w PS since my ecs k7s5a has been having reboot issues after changing the 750 duron to a 1600xp. 1600 runs fine on 100/100 but as soon as I go 133/133 reboots and hangs.
Its only on a generic enlight case 300w from newegg and I am hoping this 400 w ps will cure the the reboots.

Model # LT-A06
Dimension (DxWxH) 18 x 7.5 x 16"
Drive Bays 4 + 2 + 1
Motherboard Micro ATX, ATX up to 10.5X12.5 inches
Expansion Slots 7 Full Size
Switching Power Supply ATX 400W* P4 STYLE P4 CONNECTION
Cooling Fan Front ONE & Rear ONE (Optional - Not Included)
Description Ideal for P3/P4, AMD systems *Total of 7 bays

Question: what does P4 STYLE P4 CONNECTION mean? called there tech support 2 rings answered my question, it is compatible with my board. (forgive my P4 ingorance)

they say " Ideal for P3/P4, AMD systems " so I guess it should work with my ecs board or do I need a adapter.

I saw from another thread that they are pretty reliable.

the problem might be your bios...
i sort of had the same problem as you. i could use 100/100 or 150/150, but i couldn't use anything in between.
This problem was present in bios versions later than 11/21/01 so i'm stuck with using 11/21/01.
Try using that and see if it work

Thanks for heads up. I have been to several ecs sites. and most of them recomend replacing the chipset tape and using arctic silver, and most of them blame poor power supply.
I will try 150/150 though hope my ddr pc2100 (hynix) can take it though. It was stable as a rock with the 750 duron. I am currently using the latest cheepos bios 0625 ( I think)

At the very worst I would have a $35 400w case for my next project.

thanks

$35 shipped sounds good, but looks like the power supply is not AMD approved. This store sells them too ($29.95 +shipping, not as good a deal as Infinity's), but the description says:

ATX 400W* P4 STYLE P4 CONNECTION
* Not an AMD approved P.S. Installing any cpu over 1.3GHz will void the warranty

What do you guys think? Still worth jumping into for a P4 box? Or, a < 1.3GHz AMD?

I would bet the "non AMD approved" power supply will work fine with Athlons faster than 1.3GHz. I work on Comcraps and HP's all day and they are using 200w power supplies in EVERYTHING!!! I am curently using a P4 approved power supply that is not approved for AMD and have never had a problem related to the power supply. Good luck.

This dealer is rating "top service" by Yahoo. What are you talking about?see this link

Good luck. I've done my research, you didn't. Check with Better Business Bureau of Akron, Ohio, these people have so many complaints it is hard to overlook. Resellerratings.com should give you some idea as well. Yahoo ratings are nothing to rely on whatsoever.

I have a 400-W power supply from this company, and it's definitely not 400-W. I doubt it's even 300. It has only 4 IDE connectors and has much trouble powering an XP 1800+. Even my old crap 300-W powers the CPU better than this "400-W" unit.

Please help, two (actually 3) questions that have always bugged me:

1. "AMD approved"
What is that suppose to mean anyway? When did CPU's become so particular with PSUs?

2. The concern of not having enough power for these newer CPU's.
I thought CPUs only take relative small voltage to run (~5v, 3.3, etc). Why is there such a big concern on CPU/Power?

Sorry for my ignorance.

You are shrewd people looking for a deal. Why don't you inform yourself about companies like this, I mean the reports about them are widely available online. Why paying $35 to people that have numerous complaints and poor evaluations from their customers and those are known to be available? I gave some pointers, please check them out.

I think you and user "wmwtom" are talking about different companys. Please see his link and the company you mentioned. It's 2 total different company. Please verify my point.

ordered my case 7/19/02 fridayt night
got tracking number today 7/23/02 due to arrive 7/25/02.

for $35 shipped I took a chance, thats what amex buyers insurance is for.

I am kind of disappointed with one of the other posters stating that this 400w ps is not enough to power a 1800xp, I was hoping this ps would cure my picky ecs k7s5a board who does not want to
upgrade from its 750 duron.

The "AMD Approved" sticker means that the power supply has been tested by AMD and has been proven to work without problems. CPU's have become very particular with PSUs over the past year or two. The higher power CPU's need a more stable and capable PSU. As for the concern with the power, it is all a matter of Current (amperes) not voltage so much. These newer and faster CPUs require that a lot of current be supplied. That is why you will sometimes see power ratings for PSUs shown as (for example only): 245W on the 5V and 3.3V rails combined. This gives you an idea of how much current the power supply can provide. If you know how much power is available at a given voltage, you can calculate current: Power=Current*Voltage. If you have a look at CPU specifications you will note the power consumed is nowadays in the range (usually) of 50W-75W. That is also why good cooling of the CPU is a must. (The rest of the power goes to the motherboard, PCI cards, AGP cards, USB ports, etc. And there is some 12V power thrown in there, too.)

AnMig was talking about the P4 connector on the power supply and was wondering what it was. It is just another cable coming out of the power supply that plugs into a specific socket on P4 motherboards. This extra connector provides extra power to the CPU. Early P4s required this extra power; I believe that later P4 processors and P4 motherboards have been updated so that the extra connector isn't required. (Don't quote me on the P4 information, it isn't my strong suit.)

Hope that helps.
