None of the cars I own have it, hell the r8 doesn't even have bluetooth music!

I've used carplay before on rental cars, and i hate it... mainly because the integrated apps for it sucks. you have no choice but to use apple maps if you use carplay (google maps and waze do not have an interface for it)

I would LOVE the ability to mirror my phone on the car's multimedia screen... one day!
Wait really? The A8 don't have Bluetooth??? What is this scam lol

All non-porsche VAG cars are utter crap. If you want a car that breaks down constantly and costs $800-2300 each time it breaks down then go for the A3 or Golf or Passat or R8. VAG is probably the worst non-american car company on earth.

How do I know this? My mom own a beetle turbo. My friend owns a jetta TDI. My other friend owns an R8. They all hate their cars.

When people say 'Repair cost' what kind of repairs most people have? I have been driving for 5 years on my crappy 2006 Renault Clio and I never had any breakdowns. I only changed the tires couple of times and that wasn't even expensive... other than that my car is excellent. People that drive 60mph onto speedbumps... smh

Examples from the Beetle Turbo:

Replace timing belt 3x in the last 8 years. $800 each time

Repair ignition starter: $1200 twice. The last time, they said they can never repair it again (for some reason) so if it breaks again the whole engine must be replaced.

Trim pieces in the car broke multiple times costing $300-400 each time.

The radio and AC system have broken down twice, both times costing $800-900

These are just the problems I know about. I could ask her for the records if you'd like to see them. They are terrible.

For another reference, my 2015 Tesla has had zero issues. Never once taken it in. The Ford Fusion Hybrid I drove before that also went 5 years with no problems. Only the VW seems to have issues.

Just google "Audi repair issues" or "VW repair issues" and you will find endless horror stories. They are nice cars for the first 6-12 months. If you plan on keeping it longer than that you better lease so they repair it when it invariably breaks down 2-3x during the 3 years you lease it.

VW/Audi have figured out how to convince people the are quality just by being german. They make attractive cars... as far as appearances are concerned. But... if you use them... you find out the truth.

IMO only old cars and idiot drivers will have car repairs. I guess life is a gamble lol

Thanks for the advice. I read the reviews when I'm at work.
If you had to pick would you pick the BMW 1 series, Merc A class or Audi A3 and why? I know there are other alternatives but I pick these 3 because of the badge and brand and all 3 are similar too. Just wondering.

Of course it's a gamble but buying a VAG car is like playing the slots where buying another car is playing blackjack. One has a much higher likelihood of losing you money than the other.

Also FYI, there were over $2k in repairs within the firs two years she owned the car. They were covered by warranty but why should the car break down when it is brand new? Oh wait, it's a VAG car... of course it broke down. That's what they are designed to do.

I'll tell you my Benz E350 horror story.

I had to rip out the engine to replace a balancing shaft because the sprocket was too soft and was eaten by the chain. No, Benz didn't pay for the repairs since the class action was only in usa. that was 4000. had to fix trunk release electrical since the cable wore out.
Had to replace 1 coil pack cuz the connector broke.
the feed line to windshield washer cracked.
ac blower scrapes the casing
3 emergency brake battery, which is only useful for assisted braking when your engine dies and your main battery is dead. Basically never.
sunroof window motor blown
sunroof tray leaked, burning out the overhead light dome with all sorts of controls. that is 400 used
real window sunshade motor burnt out

All this occurred with less than 140k km of mileage.

When I was a teenager I had a corolla that I put a turbo on and ran 16psi through it completely un-tuned and with no octane enhancers or methanol. I ran that car for 120,000 miles and didn't have a single issue except replacing the clutch several times (for obvious reasons). After 120,000 miles I took the turbo off and sold it for $2,000 without ever telling them what I did with it. They called me years later saying it was the most reliable car they'd ever owned.

If you want a reliable car above everything else buy a Toyota. No other car company really comes close in reliability. That said, I'm not a fan of toyota's body styling or japanese cars in general. I prefer American.

I have a 2014 R8, that does not have bluetooth music... they didn't update the MMI until the refresh in 2017

re: audi maintenance, it's very YMMV ... just like FIVR had issues, we have been on the fortunate side of things for both the R8 and and S3, and we're very hard on our cars ... in fact we've had such good experiences we'll more then likely get an A8 when my Q50 lease is up

Apple Carplay sucks because you're stuck with Apple Maps which horribly sucks especially in turn by turn directions compared to Google Maps.

I drive a 17 year old Honda, 225k miles and in the entire history of the car, all it has ever had is tires and oil, and once I replaced the clutch master cylinder. Part was $75 and it took about 30 minutes to get to it, a few 10mm nuts and a plastic cover. Still using the factory spark plugs and the manual transmission is a sealed unit, and it consistently delivers 80+mpg.

I know some others have expressed that dashboard-light's quality index has flaws, but here is their index that shows the relative number of major mechanical failures by brand, going back around 20 years:

http://www.dashboard-light.com/

(Higher is better)

Honda, for instance, lost a lot of points for the transmission failures in the early 2000's Accords, and for the unreliable Isuzu Rodeo they were selling on their lots as the Honda Passport before they released the Pilot.

With Volkswagen, the only vehicles that even make "average" in terms of failure rates are the Golf and Touareg, all others have "chronic issues".
