That's bizzare I've always heard the complete opposite. German cars an reliability are synonyms where I'm from
Audi's don't depreciate nearly as much as other cars, and given that it's got german reliability behind I'd say buy.
Also, an A5 isn't a luxury car. It's just a car.
A5 is an A4 with 2 doors. Would consider them to be sport luxury.
For me a luxury car is:
A Rolls Royce, A Maybach, A Bently or slightly less so, but still: An Audi S8, a BMW 7Li, a Jaguar XJR, a Mercedes S65 and similar.
Your standards are way high. There are plenty of luxury cars that aren't in that price range.
And why would you choose the Audi S8 and not the A8L like you chose the BMW 7 Li?
Like what?
Damn I knew there was a long wheelbase S8, but couldn't remember what it was called.
I don't think there is a current S8...
Here's a luxury car in Canadian dollars..

I think the term "Luxury Hyundai" Is an oxymoron, but I'm biased I hate them intensly.
Shame there's no current S8, I used to love that car.
Those are not the word of a car enthusiast. Hyundai has come a long way. It is a Luxury car and it is competing with the big boys at a fraction of the price.
Don't get me wrong it's a lot better than it used to be, but that's like saying "My herpes is a lot better than it used to be"

For a guy with such low standards for power, you have awfully high standards for luxury.
We don't have an executive class in the US.
Goes from normal to luxury. Even Buicks consider themselves luxury cars in the US.
Having an executive class would fix a lot of problems.

Surely an A4 or a 5 Series is an executive class car?
He just told you there is no such classification in US. Nor in Canada for that matter.
If you can easily afford it, and you really love it above all other possibilities, then go ahead and jump in.
Fwiw, I think the A5/S5 is the best looking Audi out there along with the obvious R8. I'm still not really sold on them being worth a damn after a few years though, just like most Mercedes/BMW these days. They know their prime market of people who would never buy a used one, and they buy/lease a new one every year or two.
Probably irrelevant but I'll say anyway :
The A5 is pretty damned boring. The S5, reasonably equipped, is ~$60k. My money for a german two door would never go to Audi. In 5 years that thing is gonna be 1/3rd the value or even less, in 10 years it'll be lucky to still exist at all. I keep my cars long-term, or hand them down to family.
$60k will buy a Porsche Cayman S. It's intense, and a world better to drive due to the 2900lb weight and Porsche emphasis on handling and balance. The S5 weighs about a thousand pounds more, and really all you get is some rear seats for amputees.

Are BMW's and Audis really luxury cars in the US?
