The Sideburns is part of the car. It is one of the unique things about it. You dont like it cool dont buy one.

I'm waiting to see some kid put sideburns on his Eclipse and make it look like an R8

im sure its been done. IMO the audi looks silly with 2 colors

Personally I don't like the looks of the R8 at all. I think they could have done a better job. I'd take an S5 over an R8.

The R8 sideblades are a matter of personal taste. You can order them body colored if you like. Personally, I prefer the contrast look--silver sideblades on a black R8 are positively evil looking. I've been lucky enough to have driven the R8 (4.2L) several times on both a track and the street and I like it a lot in both environments. (Though I would definitely go manual over the automatic.)

Still, given the initial reviews of the new Porsche 911 Turbo with PDK, I think that the R8 (even in 5.2L trim) is no longer in serious contention for best super car in the sub-$150k category. If I had a spare $140,000 or so, I'd be heading down to the Porsche dealer without giving a second thought to Audi.

This is it in a nutshell. It is simply priced WAY beyond the performance you get. It does look very cool though. In a way, it kind of reminds me of the Acura NSX in the early 90's, with stellar looks and good performance, just a bit out of it's element in the stratospheric price point it occupies.

i don't see the R8 as very overpriced. iirc it's 110k for a V8 almost-supercar and 150k for a screamer. as fast as any street-drivable (not really considering F40, F50, enzo) ferrari, certainly cheaper than them, and with a well-appointed interior.

the corvette costs not that much less than the R8 and you basically get a track car. honestly, i'd just as soon buy an atom. or maybe the go-kart version of the elise.

I don't think it looks even half as sexy as a 911 GT3. I'd take the GT3 over an R8 in a heartbeat.
