Audi R8...ubber vunder car?

I don't get why people gush over this car. It looks decent when the entire car is painted one color but why do they have that giant ridiculous slab of unpainted carbon fiber behind the doors?

Everytime I see one I just shake my head and wonder WTF they were thinking. It looks about as cool as a Civic with a fake carbon fiber hood or trunk lid.

Having unpainted carbon fiber body panels on your car just isn't cool people. Even Formula One cars are painted and they are made almost entirely of carbon fiber.

If I had the kind of money needed to buy one of these it would be the absolute last car I'd consider.

Not a rant. Just an observation.

While I tend to agree with this notion, the carbon fibre roof and detailing on the M3 CSL look great IMO.

Oh, and although I appreciate the R8?s performance and appeal, I feel that the exterior design is not attractive in the slightest.

The R8 would definitely be towards the bottom of the list of cars I would consider if I was spending that sort of money.

'uber wunder' would actually be 'above wonder.' i just think english forums should stick to english, poor favour.

R8's a nice car, btw, but i don't know if i'd really put it deep in supercar territory. sadly enough, $110k is kind of an 'entry-level' supercar at best, these days. but i guess that's all kind of changing with cars like the 'vette and gtr setting ferrari-level lap times.

There is a black one with the carbon fiber insert at the Audi dealership down the road from me...it gives me a woody everytime I drive by...absolutely stunning in my opinion.

That is the big one for me...I was never huge on it in pictures...but once I started seeing them in person, then I realized how awesome they looked. I particularly like the black with the carbon fiber gray inserts.

The new R8 with the V10 is definitely in supercar territory...and is priced that way.

There are 3 options for that body panel, including paint matched. The people with the CF panel chose that. Don't hold it against the car.

its way better looking in person. the CF panel looks good too. its just not as exotic looking as most cars in that category.

If I were to get an R8, it would have to be black so that the panels didn't stand out. I would pick it over a 911 Turbo or Corvette ZR-1. The Nissan GT-R is a good bit cheaper. Ferrari F430 or F458 are a lot more expensive than the 4.2L Audi. But if you have the money for the top of the line 5.2L Audi, the Ferrari seems more interesting and not that much more expensive.

Defend it all you want. I like the interior but the exterior is bland...as is every other Audi car. I'd buy a Ferrari over this car any day.

I wouldn't buy either. Every car does 60mph at the same speed. The point is, your faults with the car are on optional items, not the car itself.

The R8 is a very beautiful car, but it is unfortunately more of a style statement than a performance bargain. As a everyday supercar, a Porsche 911 Turbo would cost the same but perform much better. As a performance car, the 911 GT3 and Vette ZR1 cost the same and perform much better.

I've seen a few around and talked to some of the owners. They are mostly late 30's to early 40's guys who want a car they consider to be sporty but a little more low key than the ferrari's and lambo's, and different from everyone else's porsche.

I saw one driving down the street yesterday. Was all black and it was right before dusk and the LED front lights looked hot. It's definitely a great looking car. I'd still get a Porsche if I ever had enough money.
