Comparably equipped, the 997 Turbo comes out to about $20k more. In this article:

Audi R8
Base Price - $109,720
Tested Price - $120,970

Porsche 911 Turbo
Base Price - $123,760
Tested Price - $141,510

The 997 Turbo would be more of a R8 V10 competitor.

That 911 in the article has a lot of those Porsche options I really wouldnt need. $2800 for silver paint?

Theoretically, I could get a decent 07 911 Turbo off Ebay for a good price.

Im just not a big Audi fan. To me they are always that "other" German car maker.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm not saying you couldn't get a custom ordered 997TT for that price, it's just very rare. When you compare equivalents, the 997TT will tend to be a closer competitor to the R8 V10 version.

They're both interesting cars though.

I am rather surprised the R8 could beat the 997TT around Willow Springs International, especially by that much. It's really surprising in light of the 997TT's faster straight line performance, and marginally better braking and steady state cornering grip. That really speaks to the R8's much higher level of usability.

I was surprised as well because the new 911 TT is a beast. Kudos to Audi, though I would like to see other head to head reviews from other magazines.

Less useful, but here:

Track times from EVO magazine:

0-100mph: 10.4s

Bedford West Circuit: 1.22,1min

For comparison...
F430F1 1.24,2min
Porsche 997 Turbo 1.23,55min
Porsche 997 GT3 1.23,1min
Ferrari 599GTB 1.23,1min
Lamborghini Gallardo(520hp) 1.22,8min

From the latest Popular Mechanics:

Streets of Willow times:

Viper - 1:15.59
Audi R8 - 1:15.69
Corvette Z06 - 1:15.74
997 Turbo - 1:17.17

The R8 is doing amazingly well on the roadcourses.
