This is usually an indication that you have a game or application in the background that resets the default settings. This is most common with folks who install just the base drivers and not any of the pieces of the software pack.
My Audigy 2 resets only if I run NTRegopt. Norton systemworks might have a similar registry defragger at startup that will reset the creative settings.
