Dang! I am working on building a new computer and I an new to online resellers. I am SO GLAD i heard of newegg.com... THEY ARE GREAT. they have such low prices and even customer support. When I saw that an OEM audigy was on there site for only $63 I was amazed. Only $4 for shipping, too!!

I'd say if you want to go for it. Its definitely not necessary, but audigy sure have cool new features and the software is supposed to be sweet. Don't forget the firewire too...if you're gonna use that its an incredible deal.

I have a similar question, I play games and listen to a lot of .mp3's... I have a Live! Value right now. I just got my Logitech Z-560's hooked up from Dell. They sound great, I'm wondering if I'll hear more of a difference with the Audigy.

Thanks,

CK

Newegg has it now for $62 + $4. The thing that sucks is I live 15 miles from them and they won't let me pickup and I have to pay CA sales tax...blah.

For me the better option was z-buy.com for $59 + $4 and no tax.

z-buy is pretty fast and decent, just has horrible communication. I entered my CC # incorrectly and it took a week for them to resolve the issue.

I have ordered multiple items in the past from Z-Buy with no problems. I think the Audigy may finally be coming my way!

Arg dont remind me of z-buy.com ... they put me on hold for so long, then i finally hung up and when I called back, it was busy...I have never heard of a large customer service line being busy... Also, the video card (Visiontek Geforce 3 Ti 200) that I bought had one its ram heatsinks off (it had fallen off, but was still in the bag) But when i tried to report it, it was difficult and I ended up sending an email. Still no response. If you want my example and another, please go to the BRAG & MOAN thread of the HOT DEALS category. Scroll towards the bottom to find my post.

i bought this audigy that you speak of from newegg on dec. 21st...newegg shipped it out on christmas eve, and i received it the 26th! Good job Fedex and Newegg! It works great, nice drivers under XP. I was debating whether to save the $ and get the 5.1, but I decided to go all out and by the Audigy - it will be more future proof and probably will work better when I get a 5.1 speaker setup this summer. I do have one complaint though - currently I have my audigy hooked up to my bookshelf stereo system via a miniplug to RCA connector. When I turn up the volume too loud in windows, it gets horrible distorted, so I have to turn it up on the bookshelf system (where it sounds fine). Is it the cable or the audigy? I didn't have this problem with my old Turtle Beach Montego II (Aureal). Thanks.

erub,

In your situation your Audigy card is acting like a preamp and thus the volume needs to be kept low and adjusted with your stereo system. If you adjust the sound on the PC you are basically overamplifiying the signal into your bookshelf system and thus you are creating the distortion. For now just adjust the volume on your bookshelf system and only adjust the windows volume to get the best overall sound without distortion.

What "cool new features" could a sound card have?

the audigy's been at $63 for a while now at newegg, but it's a good deal... i got myself a tbsc at dell.com when they had the 20% off everything, so the tbsc came out to be 55... might wanna check dell.com to see if they have it for cheaper...

HepDude:

Two cool Audigy features are:
1. A firewire input.
2. Support for Dolby 5.1 surround.

Support for Dolby Digital 5.1 (decoding) is not new, nor is it any better than that found in the SBLive series.

The other "cool" new features are EAX HD support (which no games take advantage of yet), 24/96 output (via SPDIF), and higher quality internal processing.
