Audigy trouble- APCI or Audigy?

I've been having the squealing and crashing witht he audigy while playing CS. I've removed it and am using the c-midia chip built into motherboard. I heard that if I remove the APCI and change bios setting to non PnP OS that I might be able to get the audigy to work with out crashing my computer. Before the Audigy was removed I had checked to see if it was sharing an IRQ and it wasn't.
What I would like to know is which is better to have-
1. An APCI enbled computer with C-midia sound. OR
2. A non-APCI enbled computer with Audigy soundcard.?

I'm currently running option #1 and everything is fine and stable.

someone must have an opinion on this...
will a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card be a better choice? Will it force me to change to non-APCI like the audigy?

This is actually a documented problem. It's rare, but Creative has acknowledged that it does exist. They haven't found a fix for it yet, but early indications point to a ACPI problem WinXP.

I wouldn't bother waiting for a fix if I could help it. I love my Audigys, but I'd dump them in a heartbeat if I had this problem. It's just not worth it. I had the Santa Cruz before the Audigy. It's an excellent card and well worth the time if you can exchange the card.

I'd probably go with option 2 if I was you. I've never been a big fan of ACPI because I keep my IRQ usage to a very minimal level anyway so the sharing does little except reduce my performance somewhat. Also I don't really mind if I can't put my HDs to sleep or that I have to manually power down the system at the end of the day.

Is ACPI part of APCI or to they mean the samething?
So there really is no disadvantage to running non-ACPI?

definitely your audigy, only creative has these kind of problems, which is why I don't use them anymore. If they can't make compatible products, why buy them.
