Audio books, say what?

Ok, I need the ATOT collective to school me on audio books.

Audible seems to be the top choice but $14.95 a month for one book sounds pretty spendy to me.

For those of you that listen to them, what is my best bet? Also, any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

It's hard to find an audiobook for under $15 that is longer in length. I've used audible in the past and basically use it as a start/stop subscription. I will mention Audible in the past has had some pretty great rewards offered to keep your subscription running so if you give reasons you are leaving you'll actually get more bang for your buck than otherwise.

Isn't Audible affiliated with Amazon? I believe it's an Amazon company.

You can hook up with your local library for audio books. The upside is it's free. The downside is they normally only have one audiobook. So if someone has a popular audiobook out, you may have to wait a while before you can take it out. Also, the selection at the library isn't as robust as it is on Audible.

It says over 700k titles and thousands of audiobooks. I have no idea what's covered.

I am with the guy who recommended the local library.

Mine have tons on CDs but they also partner with Overdrive and others so that I can download plenty of them. I hate how the Overdrive app always forgets its position but I can deal with it if the price is free.

I have bought books from Audible in the past but only use a monthly subscription. Their books are expensive individually.

Just note, a lot of the readings NOT from Audible are from different people. Audible hires a lot of people to read books for them.

I went to our local library a few days ago and they have tons of them on a series of CDs. I usually get their digital versions but have never their CD versions. I think the pain of ripping each CD would be a lot of work, especially if you have an iDevice.
