I need some help on a mixdown with one of my tracks.

You can get an idea of my music here.

Let me know if you have experience and I can send over the track in question

I can hardly read the text on that site.

80% grey, make that 20%, on a translucent table will do that for you.

He's right, the text is way too dark.

I'm writing those text settings down on a Post-It right now, in case I ever need to make a Myspace page that's a total PITA to read.

Re: audio engineers, I think there's at least one legit one here. She'll find this thread I'm sure.

i have a little experience mixing. what are you trying to do? your song army of fear is pretty good and i would probably like most of it if it was higher quality and not compressed. What software are you using? I have used logicpro mostly. The music on there sounds way way overly compressed, are you using a brick wall? does your wave form look like a big box? and it sounds like you are EQing the hell out of most of it, though it may just be because of the player.

edit:
ah.. here's your problem: "a pair of speakers I found on clearance at a Wal-Mart in Wisconsin" you cant mix without good monitors. if you are on the cheap i would recommend a pair of sony 7506 headphones. They have a very flat response and are very transparent. you still need to listen to everything on a few different systems to see how it sounds to the people who will buy the music though.

Hmm.. I'll look into it, I guess. The text displays perfectly fine on every Mac I've used, especially the one I built the layout with. Might be an issue of monitor calibration, but who knows.

Regardless, I'm looking for an engineer.

I'll PM you the track.

The MySpace player tends to turn everything I make to mush but I won't deny my love of compression. I don't use brick-walls at all but I work with each channel in Logic to stretch the transients. My waveforms never look like brick walls, you'll see it in the track I sent. I like a big, thick sound and sometimes even record my drums or instruments to a cassette and back. Just part of my aesthetic, I guess.

it displays ok for me but is still a pita to read, you should make the text less gray, would make the site a lot more appealing.

It's hard to read on mine too. But of course your color choice is correct... is what I'm gleaning from your tone.

Maybe if I was a writer or a poet with a page and was looking for an editor to come check out my writing... then I might take issue with the color of the text on my page. So far no complaints whatsoever by the actual listeners of my music. But you see that flash player on the top right of the page? Yeah, the one with titles in it and a play/stop button? That's where the music comes out of. That's where engineers (RE: post title) can get an idea of my music (RE: post body).

Thanks Herm for the message.
