Audio Out(A7N8X) -> Onkyo Receiver

I was playing with my home stereo again and ran into this bug. The RCA cable running from the computer to the Onkyo receiver is like 30feet long. When connected and powered up there is a HUGE amount of background noise. When connected to an iPod or any other portable device there is zero noise. Both the computer and iPod are at max volume.

Sounds like a grounding issue to me.. Is there anything I can do? I'm using the integrated audio on my Asus A7N8X-deluxe motherboard. Does the on board audio just suck so much?

How exactly do you have it connected? Considering it's a Deluxe->Reciever, I assume you're using Dolby Digital via S/PDIF?

The receiver is from 1992.. So it's analog RCA input. No spdif, no nothing.

Headphone jack on motherboard to split RCA 30' cable.

The computer is on a Belkin 800VA UPS too.

I tried connecting the analog RCA to the cd-rom drive.. same noise.. Tried a Mac G4, same noise.

The only thing I can think of is dirty electricity. Comments?

Are the wires ran near any power cords/wires? If so try serperating them. Also try hooking up the 30 foot wire by itself (no other wires in the area) from the computer to something (like a TV etc). It could just be sh!tty wires, but it is probably crossed or near a power cable.

As is without moving anything all there is no noise when hooking up the exact same cable setup to an iPod or other standalone self powered device.

With the cable unplugged there is no noise. However as soon as I plug it into any computer(sound card or cd-rom) I get noise.

Try disabling everything you can (that won't result in no sound at all) in the SoundStorm control panel and see if that helps.
